As I understand it to be the S A Government has four additinal Bombardier Flexity Classic Trams on order. Would any one know if that is still a current order or has that since been cancelled with the purchase of the Alstom Citadis Trams ?

Saturday the 23rd of October there was a "Crusty Demonds" motorcycle stunt show at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
When the show finished hundreds of people came flooding out of the Centre, some going to the pub (on the other side of the road) but most headed for the tram stop filling up a waiting tram In no time, the tram became chockers so the doors were closed and were guarded by transit guards, with hundreds more wanting a tram ride.
Odd thing Is the tram stayed at the terminus for about 20 minutes with people all jammed Inside.
A local bus along Port Road pulled up and people flooded across the road to try and get aboard, the next tram finely arrived 5 minutes later, filled up quickly and headed off the the City with no stuffing around.
Is Adelaide not very good at planing the transport needs for major events ?

That's very interesting. How to shoot your reputation as a reliable transit providor in the foot. What do you think the reason for the 20 min wait was? Sticking to a timetable (only 20 min headways for a tram service, doesn't sound like trams are justified)? Single line track and waiting for the next tram to clear the section? Not providing extra vehicles for an event?
It would never have happened in the old Sydney tram system.

On page 99 of the DTEI's 2008-2009 Annual report, the supply of four extra Flexitys (plus spare parts) is mentioned, with a 2010 completion date.
The six Citadis trams are mentiond elsewhere in the report. The latest rumours have the first of the Flexitys arriving in January.

Thank you for all information in regards to the four additional Flexity trams. When the four Flexity trams are delivered it will give Adelaide a fleet of 15 Flexity trams and 6 Citadis trams. This will be quite an impressive fleet. I would imagine that the works involved in up-grading the Glengowrie Depot are progressing well and the tram fleet are housed and maintained in a first class depot.
As I have not been back to Adelaide for several years , I am looking forward to seeing and riding the Citadis trams and also seeing the new extension to the Entertainment Centre. Adelaide is a very livable city and all the tram / light rail works adds to the livability of this city.

I think they bought all the excess Citadis available at bargain basement price. However a few Flexity XXLs wouldn't go astray.

Wouldnt be much good at Adelaide United games involving Melbourne Victory. Police usually close the road so they can surround the Victory fans and march them back into the city

Wonders if they will be supplied with the same Air con as the last batch. We already know the last units were useless, so why pay for AC that we are simply going to have to remove the moment they arrive in Aust?
Perhaps they could send some yellow paint across too, as the paint on a couple of the ends of the current units has dissolved back to white undercoat.

There is only approximately 35 meters of the single track, located just at the east side of the Morphett St. Bridge. That was kind of compromise for the right turning toward ACC parking building.
Yes, we do not have enough trams, but taking into account a very vocal opposition to them... I am very happy having them at all. New 4 trams (if they come) will be more than welcome addition.

Why would anyone appose the trams. The system is green, and if extended could serve the city to help reduce Adelaide's carbon footprint and it's not like there is any traffic in Adelaide. I was able to drive through the cbd to the hotel I stayed at in only 5 minutes during peak hour.
I dare you to try driving through the cbd of sydney at peak hour. It would take more like 30 minutes to get from the western distributor to hyde park in peak hour which is like 4 hours long.

Certainly the above photos of North Terrace do not indicate a vehicle traffic situation so critical as to single-track the tramway to get a turning lane in. What a joke.
Please remember that the tram stop seen in the 2nd of Medo's photos was the end of the line before the Entertainment centre extension.
The powers to be designed the short single track section as a cheaper alternative to a cross over. It uses two points not four, and the right turn lane was a bonus! (btw it services a small carpark with limited capacity.
When the extension was built the man writing the cheques didn't want to write one to upgrade this bit!
The turn lane was a bonus, NOT the reason (but many will try to tell you differently!)
