Thanks Grantham. Haven't spent a lot of time looking at the exhibits there, but the outside area looked quite familiar

Probably because that's exactly what it is. I was most intrigued to see it when i visited in 2007, mainly cause it's the kind of thing we don't see in NSW. All yours Graham4405

Mmmm, tricky!

It looks like different sleepers to the Normanton Croydon line, so as a guess I'll try for something in the Northern Territory? Isn't there a preserved/tourist line up there, with a W class 4-8-2 or something?

That would be the Old Ghan Preservation Society at Alice Springs, but no, it isn't there...

Line to Forsayth?
"Ballast_Plough"

In the spirit of this thread, I'll have to pay that. Bonus points if you can tell me which town the Savannahlander is leaving! Smile

BTW, if I haven't already mentioned it, I love your pics of the Forsayth goods...

Hi all,

I've split off the discussion of what is a tourist railway in relation to this thread into it's own thread.

http://www.railpage.com.au/f-p1502128.htm#1502128

Until we come to some sort of consensus, I would recommend that the interim criteria for posting a photo is that it was taken on what is a recognised tourist railway that is run by a not for profit organisation.

eg, but not limited to: Puffing Billy, Hotham Valley, Pichi Richi Railway, DSCR, VGR, Cooma Monaro Railway, Mary Valley Heritage Railway, Don River and so on. I also don't see a problem with museums such as Thirlmere, Port Dock, Bassendean, North Williamstown, Glenorchy, etc...

Perhaps let Mr. Plough declare open floor before such a suggestion? Who knows, he might even post a picture himself!

I only said that because there was a discussion on some other matter which has disappeared...

Yes - the line looked too familiar from when I rode the train from Cairns to Forsayth as the actual goods a number of years ago.

At a rough guess would the section have been Einasleigh - Mt Surprise?

I might declare open floor anyway as virtually all my heritage photos have 2'6" tracks or NA locos which kinda gives it away...

Hmm, not quite. the train is leaving Einasleigh en route to Forsayth. We never made it to Forsayth (on the train) as a track machine had derailed in the Delaney Gorge. The train stabled at Turkey Flat for the night and a bus conveyed passengers to Forsayth.
