Thanks, but the blue on the blue goose was definitely way too dark when we saw it the other day (darker than the picture), although I think a flash might have been used for the photo.

The blue on the Auscision blue-goose model is correct. They are however looking to lighten it a little to give it a more 'in service' look that most people remember.

The blue on the Intercity livery is wrong (factory error) and will of course be corrected.

Paul
Paul,

I beg to differ!  The blue on the pilot models of the original V sets looks to be navy blue.  This is far too dark and contradicts all colour photos I have seen to date, and my memory (if it's correct) says it should be a mid blue colour, even when new and not weathered.

Another problem with the end panels of these pilot models is that the background is white.  It should be a very light grey and definitely not white.

Happy colouring,

John

John I totally agree.

The blue is far to dark and if anything there is too much mauve or purple in the colour as seen in the above photo.

I have very vivid memories of them when introduced an running, and the reasons behind the nick name as well. The blue as painted on them as not a real dark blue, like a navy or royal blue at all.

Edit:-  Furthermore the light grey area should be a matt or satin finish, and definitely not glossy.

I wouldn't rely on photos, have seen the models myself. The background is not white, it is a matt light grey. As I said, the blue IS the correct colour (don't rely on the photos) and it will be adjusted slightly as it didn't stay that colour very long.

Hi Paul,

I did see the models in the flesh (well behind perspex/glass anyway) at Liverpool and if it is grey it has far too much white in it and it is also much too glossy.  As I said, when new the prototype was a dull light grey, nothing like the paint on the pilot models.

The colour combination on the model does not look anything close to the real thing when introduced into service.  Maybe it is based on a later paint version or after a repaint.   I do remember the DD interurbans when new from 1970 onwards, as they were one of my favourite train types.

Who says the blue is correct?  The real ones when new were definitely not that dark (as in the photo, or as on display at Liverpool).

I hope Auscision can convince the factory to make the colours more prototypical.  At this stage the colours on this version are a  long way out!

Happy painting,

As an afterthought, maybe I should clarify my viewpoint.  The original paint scheme on the model looks worse in the flesh than the photos on facebook.  I was shocked when I saw the colours on display at Liverpool.

I'm guessing that it would be the other RailCorp set, or the SRA InterCity sets to follow.

I'm actually a little bemused to read that. I recall a Facebook post a couple of months before the XPTs were delivered - and I expect long after the mix of liveries would have been fixed with the factory - stating that they were running low on available candy SRA sets and "get your orders in quick". I wonder if the opposite was the case and they were trying to drum up interest in the SRA XPTs.

Nevertheless I'm pleased for Auscision that they are starting to sell out of these sets. I'm actually surprised its taken this long. It was a big project for them with expensive-to-buy sets even at the original pre-paid $795. All the unsold sets sitting on the shelf must be an ongoing cost for them.

You're only a little? But, but, but I thought the InterCity would be first to be sold out.

So have I.

Although I think this topic has come up before and it's not necessarily an indicator of an imminent arrival - they just take a while to process them.

Correct - they seem to process and sent out invoices in batches. I also got mine for the 442 and RUB sets last night (ordered a couple of months ago) and I expect they are still at least 6 months away.

I didn't notice much discussion on any newsgroups about Australian Modeller's 20% off special over the weekend.

It was scary watching all the "Sold Out" entries going up on the store website as I dithered and dallied about making my mind up.  Ended up spending too much and saving about $250 on non-Auscision items from another producer who does not give discounts.

AM need to get all their elves on deck to pack and post all the goodies they sold.  I wonder hpw many $,000 was raked in over the weekend.  Did anyone visit the store on Saturday, and was there a crowd?

Happy shopping,

Yes, same thing happened when I was ordering some Walther's containers. I also wanted six of one type but had to settle for the last three in stock.

Hold your horses (pun intended), they haven't finished updating the pics for the announced models let alone worrying about surprises.

I see that CEY001 has sold out already, obviously a lot of pre orders for that particular model.

All we need to wait now for is the unannounced model announcement.

They certainly like to keep people waiting for announcements
