AC Inverters on C43/44s are in cabinets behind cab on both sides.There are 6 small inverters 1 for each traction motor where as GT46s only have 2 large inverters 1 per bogie.

I can't explain this but CF4408 was in the same location as seen in the link to the photo of CF4407 posted earlier when CF 4408 was seen on Saturday afternoon, and the handrails had been taken off again...
I took photos on both occasions, so I'm not just confused.

And yet the cab is full width wth just a mansard roof ...They are only prototypes/demos, I guess that if they are successful and result in UGL receiving an order, UGL can then afford to do the detailed design work to produce an "Australian" profile loco. Why reinvent the wheel?
At least they have not used the UK cab, which is pig ugly to comply with UK/European nanny state regulation

3700hp 120-tonnes, being built as demonstrators to compete with the EDI GT42CU-ACe in the narrow gauge market, they will most likely test in Queensland with Aurizon and PN initially...if things haven't change since they were first announced.

There is no order, as has been said already (even on this page) the PHs being built are demonstators that will test with Aurizon and PN and whoever else wants to try them in an effort to gain orders.

I didnt get that either. So its not loading gauge.
The only thing I can think of is if the part we see, is either the cab end or the hood end, and what we cant see is some other feature like radiators etc requiring the curved roof, but without having a curved roof along its entire length. The handrails on the end dont look locomotive like, making me think there is something else going on the chassis and its a temporary hand rail. Or are these locos so good they dont need a full length hood?
I cant see the point of a curved roof if in fact it is all fully curved. They built the QR 2800 class with a normal roof. Maybe a throw back to English Electric days lol.

Going by the artist's drawing on the net I'm sure I was looking at the front of the unit. The handrail is only a temporary one as fitted to the C44 while under construction. The odd shaped steelwork in front of the railing seems to be the crash protection that's welded to the frame in front of the cab. The pic below shows how the hood profile compares to the cab and vestibule.

Business is good, but having some pride is ok too I think. Id like to see a study into employee satisfaction. Ie, two truck companies, one washes the trucks every week, one never unless they have to. Id be surprised if the ones that get washed never have employees who are overall more happy and enthusiastic about work then the other one. Having pride in what you do is real important, if you want employees who give a toss in my opinion. But then UGL are still building trains and EDI arent. Hmm. Must say im torn here.

PH37 under construction at UGL, Broadmeadow.The angular section projecting from the hood side looks like the section on a class 70 just forward of the radiator.
If so we are looking at the rear of the unit without the radiators yet fitted.
The space at the end of the unit would be filled with the dynamic brakes which are behind the radiator on a class 70.

Also the cab is facing the towards us beside the unit, which makes sense, as a modeller, I sit all subassemblies of a model under construction in line on the bench, to make checking of fit easier, and reduce simple mirror image mistakes. Also, UGL seems to build all their units facing this way in the shop, these days at least. That unit beside it facing the other way, is a 92 in for repair. These tend to end up facing either way, I guess it doesn't matter for that sort of work.
That empty bit of frame seemed rather long to my eye, although this doesn't show up in a photo.

Also, I forgot to mention, I saw CF4409 and 10 leading 03 on a Hunter coalie today. They appear to have replaced 01 and 02 on an NHEH set

The first two 93's of the current order were out test running last week. There was a C44 frame heading through Hexham on a truck last Thursday, and another on Monday of this week. It's highly unlikely that there were only two other frames on the production line at Broadmeadow. So are there more C44's to follow after the last 93?
