Neither Creswick Racecourse nor General Motors.  (I could have sworn that G.M. was the official limit of the suburban line in those days and therefore ineligible for this thread.)

Another clue, just to clarify, or confuse, matters:

I was open to the general public for goods and passenger traffic.  (That, of course, rules out most racecourse platforms.)

Irymple?
  Faredodger Assistant Commissioner

Good guess, but not Irymple.

Further clue:

I was closed to passengers as part of the New Deal in 1981 but remained an electric staff station for another decade, provided with switching facilities part of the way through that last decade.

Baddaginnie?
  Faredodger Assistant Commissioner

Not Hattah or Baddaginnie.

To sum up (that often produces a winner):

I am a closed station on an open line.  I still have a station office, but I'll wager no ticket was ever bought from it.

I was open to the general public for goods and passenger traffic.

I was closed to passengers as part of the New Deal in 1981 but remained an electric staff station for another decade, provided with switching facilities part of the way through that last decade.

I am not:

North Bendigo Junction
Geelong Racecourse
Crewwick Racecourse
General Motors

Warrenheip
Irymple
Hattah
Badaginnie

Not Bungaree.

Some good answers there, but Glenrowan is the correct one.

- A closed station on an open line.

- Open to the general public for goods and passenger traffic.

- Closed to passengers as part of the New Deal in 1981.

- Provided with switching facilities. When switched out, the through section would be Benalla "B" box - Wangaratta.

- In 1991, electric staff sections Benalla - Glenrowan - Wangaratta abolished and replaced with electric staff section Benalla 'B' Box - Wangaratta, with Glenrowan dis-established as an electric staff station; all signals on the broad gauge line abolished, along with the electric staff instruments.

-  In 2001, the Edwardian station building was demolished, and a replica of the original 1874 structure, based on original drawings, was constructed.  Hence my assertion that it still has a station office, but that I'd wager no ticket was ever bought from it.

I was leaving the historical folklore-ish bits till last.  (Incidentally - have I mentioned this before? - my great grandfather went to Glenrowan station and spoke to Ned Kelly, whom he knew, when the word had gone around the area that he had been captured, and Ned was lying on a stretcher waiting to be taken to Melbourne by train.  It amazes me that the police let him talk to Ned, but he swore it happened.  Ned, said something like, "Davy, never tangle with the law, because you won't win.")

Lachlan's Train Channel has the road.

Thanks Faredodger.

For this one: I was the terminus of a line that has since been truncated.
