No takers?  It's the terminus of a short branch line.

I plump for Beeac, based purely on your last clue.

Not Beeac.  And Beeac station was precisely in Beeac.

Port Albert?

Port Albert is correct.

The station was not actually in Port Albert, but in a locality on the outskirts called Palmerston.

The station name Palmerston was the original name for Gapsted.

And the staff is passed to Hansie13.

Cheers Faredodger; to be honest, I knew pretty much none of that history - I was just working off short branch lines that ended just out of town.

New clue: I was a terminus, then a through station, back to being a terminus; trains do not currently run to me.

Leongatha?

Neither of Moulamein or Leongatha.

The line beyond me was originally built by a Shire Council and subsequently taken over by the Victorian Railways.

The worst part of guessing correctly is having to come up with the next challenge Confused.

OK, we're looking for a closed station on an open line. This location was formerly a junction.

North Creswick?

We're looking for a closed station on an open line. This location was formerly a junction.

The two lines that branched at this location are still open, but the junction itself has been moved elsewhere.

It is not:
  • Carlsruhe
  • Warrenheip
  • Redesdale Junction
  • North Creswick

I'm wondering if this is something of a trick question.

Red Cliffs closed some time ago (is the remaining siding used at all?), and it was the junction of the Morkalla line.  The Red Cliffs Historical Steam Railway now uses part of the permanent way of the former branch, as far as Thurla; but I believe it "joins" the main line some distance south of the former junction.

Faredodger
The remaining sidings are still broad gauge and are disconnected. There is no connection of tracks between the RCHSR and mainline

I'm running out options.  Korong Vale?
  Djebel Train Controller

And hbedriver has it with Mangalore.  Hbedriver the staff is yours.

Thanks, Djebel, interesting teaser there.

This junction station is closed, as are all the railways which ran through it
