Perhaps I like drastic.  It was the Mildura Shire Council, Country Roads Board, and State Rivers and Water Supply Commission Siding.  I suspect that they didn't make it any longer because no-one could say any more with one breath.

I fear that this post would have dragged on and had the potential to  wasted many more hours of quality time when we could have wasted more time on other bits of trivia .Our panel of experts have judged you, Fare dodger the contender with the most amount of correct words   The siding that I could find with the most words,

Mildura Shire Council, Country Roads Board and State Rivers and Water Supply Commission siding.

Next teaser:

I am a closed station on an open line.

Railway folklore has it that for about a year after my closure to general traffic I was used as virtually a private station by two particular passengers.

Not Taradale.

Time for another clue:

The two passengers were two schoolgirls.

I can understand why you said that, railblogger, but not Rupertswood.

Of course, there's no guarantee that the stop was near their school. It could just as easily be at their homes.

For no particular reason; Carlsruhe.

Good reasoning, Valvegear.  It may well have been near their homes.  But I would speculate that neither their homes nor the school were near Carlsruhe, as it isn't the answer.

I'll give you a bit more of a clue:  The story goes that the closure was posted in the relevant Weekly Notice, and very shortly afterwards, it came to the notice of the powers that be that these two girls had purchased yearly tickets.  So an amending Notice appeared, stating that I was closed to all traffic apart from one specified down train and one specified up train; and these trains would stop only if required, "and only for Misses [Schoolgirl 1] and [Schoolgirl 2]".  As soon as the tickets expired, the bulldozers moved in.

Of course this may be all an urban railway myth, but that is the story as recounted to your informant.  I'll understand if you feel sceptical.  If the answer is not provided by tomorrow, I shall give a clue of a more conventional nature.

I've heard of such a thing happening in Japan - but the story has it the station remained open until the student graduated High School.

I can't offer any kind of educated guess here though, so I'll take a random one at Beveridge.

There is something of a parallel there; but I heard the Victorian story well before the situation in Japan arose, so there's no question of confusing one with other.

I'm reminded of a situation of a test match in Perth some years ago, where an Australian bowler (Hurst) "Mankaded" a Pakistani batsman; and in retaliation, a Pakistani bowler (Sarfraz) appealed successfully for "handled ball" when the batsman had merely tossed the ball back to the bowler.  A famous incident (or infamous); but fewer people are aware that the exact same circumstance had been recounted in a short story by Herbert Farjeon over thirty years before.

Sorry, it isn't Beveridge.

Time for another clue:

I opened about half a century after the line itself, initially as a crossing loop, but acquired passenger and goods facilities about three years later.  I remained a crossing station throughout my existence.

Further clue:  There was once a quarry siding originating from the station yard.

Is it Manor?

Yes, it is indeed Manor.

Over to you, raudteejaam.
  raudteejaam Train Controller

Cheers FD. I suspected it would have to be a station with a relatively frequent service back in the time of the schoolgirls using it for it to be any use of getting to/from school. That narrowed it down somewhat.

New challenge as we edge closer to 100 pages:

I am a closed station on an open line. From here you could theoretically have travelled on several different branch lines plus the main line.
