New El Zorro Service to Tocumwal?

The SG emerald service arrived 2 hours before this one.

The delay was due to heavy rain at Tocumwal yesterday. Train left Tocumwal at 2100 instead of 1530.

My train home overtook it at Middle Footscray, I got photos but because of the low light they're not that great and aren't really worth posting.

The up Tocumwal freight must have run via Essendon due to an occupation between Footscray and Sydenham, and since the Coburg goods line leading into the arrivals yard was abolished a week ago the train probably has no choice but to run around in the southeastern suburbs. If the train was under 10 wagons Caulfield Station would be ideal, if not probably Westall.

Silly question but why couldn't they run around at Flinders St?

Or even a spare platform at Southern Cross?

Because that would make too much sense Exclamation We're in Victoria....

Flinders St may have been an issue if the train length was longer than a surburban consist, also problems may arise with platform availability and potential conflict moves.
Southern Cross should be quite doable, I understand the Kensington grain is scheduled to run around there now in the early morning.

My understanding from a PM working on RRL the access to Melbourne Yard Arrivals fromm Coburg goods will be placed back into service once the RRL works have been completed in the area.

I remember when I was a kid I would go for a walk with Dad and we would pass Geelong Loco.  Sitting in the yard for what seemed like a long time was T413.

Seeing it now being used is fantastic.

The line must have been repaired fast as I have some pics that I took when I was up in Nathalia/Numurkah at the start of the month.

These pics are taken on the way in from Shep to Numurkah.  You may be able to see washed out places under the line.

Yes, the first El Zorro train ran on the 16th March.

I believe PN ran their first train back on either the 11th or 13th of March.

Hi All,

Went up to Tocumwal today for the first time, and managed to score well.

T413 / T378 departed with 14 container wagons just after 1500. We followed for an hour or so, then went back to get B75 / T 341 / T 320 / X31 on the grain which was being shunted before we left. Unfortunately by 1900 it still hadn't departed so we cruised back to Melbourne.

Cheers

Cris

A single T Class and 5 wagons on this train lately. Loading has been a bit light out of Tocumwal, in fact wagons were empty yesterday as they were on 14/6, 2 containers on on 21/6.
I haven't seen the train on the down.

Is the up train still passing through the Shepparton area approx 17:30-18:00?
Last I heard the down train has been departing Melbourne between 20:30-21:30, although it has occasionally jumped around the 19:00-19:30 mark when possible.

Has been arriving at Shepp around 17.10 - 17.20 on the up. Has been made to wait a few minutes for a green departure, not sure why as the up pass is due in Seymour at 17.00.
I was wondering whether there was any loading on the down as what they are bringing out of Tocumwal is hardly financially viable.

Thanks for that.
Hopefully this train does have a future - looking forward to October and the return of daylight savings.

Been going to Tocumwal lately with 5 empty wagons and coming back with 5 empty wagons except for last week, had two boxes of Hay on board.

I know it is an older thread but those were the days when a smaller operator could scare the bigger guys.  Here is a video I took at Broadmeadows Railway Station with @Michelle12 where an UP PN Tocumwal Goods crosses a down El Zorro tocumwal train loaded with containers.

What a ridiculous statement.

Several smaller operators doing a much better job today than El Zorro ever did, and without stealing from their employees.

I don't think so.  El Zorro did build business that was not there and since there demise that business has gone.  I cannot comment on the employee situation.

Smaller operators have the potential to scare the bigger guys because of lower cost structures and are seen to be more nimble.

In other words their business modal was unviable, the reason why they went belly up, owing many creditors big $$$
