Rothbury Riot Railway collection?

Sad I have heard a vicious rumour that quite a bit of rollingstock there is in imminent likelyhood of scrapping. Does anyone know the truth of this? Would certainly be a loss to NSW preservation if it is true as they have some unique carriages out there!

I hope they don't scrap any of the SMR Tanks.

4627 is still sandwiched between carriages & still in the ugly freightcorp livery and if they saved that, they can also repaint in Indian Red or Tuscan livery.

4472 and 7350 are operational but won't be able to run, because of the Hunter Expressway building over the junction between Rothbury and Branxton.

Meanwhile the restoration and regauging of R766 looks and near completion.

No need to preserve or even restore both CPH 16 & 31 because there are plenty of them maintained and operational around NSW.

I certainly agree with you - I assume they would only be scrapped if they are beyond repair (or even beyond static preservation).

I'm playing catch up here - will the expressway cut the line off completely?

While I agree with the fact that plenty are preserved, it would be a shame to just cut them up based on that reasoning alone. They are a perfect unit for smaller heritage railways, and unless their condition is beyond salvage, it would be preferable to see them offered to smaller operators (State Mine, Oberon, etc) before just discarding them.

I'd suspect if anything is to be scrapped at all it would be passenger carriages that are beyond salvage, and are falling apart. Better to get something for them, than nothing...

The new Hunter Expressway is not blocking either the branch to Rothbury or the main line & sidings. Rothbury is still being used  by a contractor to PN doing modifications to coal hoppers& the last set of hoppers went in there only within the last 10 days or so. There are pillars in place to carry  the Expressway  over all rail lines just west of Branxton, these pillars do not have the header beam in position yet but should at the next close downs in either March  13-17 or May 15-19.

Wally - thankyou for clarifying this! I thought it odd that a new road would be allowed to cut off a still-used siding.

The Yass Railway Heritage Centre or the Gundagai Railway Museum would be other ones that might like to obtain one.

Be great for the MRSI to obtain one of these CPH's as well.

Further to the above comments, the Huntlee development, the proponent of which has recently won its court case, and is now likely to proceed with the development of a new town between Branxton and  North Rothbury, has provision in the plans for a railway museum precinct, a little closer to the Main North than the current location.

If i remember correctly the two CPH railmotors are not owned by Chris Richards or his Private Trust , another individual owns them.

So R766 is nearly finished it would be good to see it out and about Would it be used with Cars that are being stored at the State Mine at Lithgow. To see this locomotive storming up the Blue Mountains would be a fantastic sight.

Lets see what unfolds!!!

Just a slight update, the northern side piers have been poured & waiting for the header beam, the southern piers are in the process of formwork/reo being fixed & placed. There is a center set of pillars which have had the base footings poured  but no reo or formwork has been erected as of last night, The whole worksite at the moment is a big mud pond & has brought most work to a halt.

Are you referring to 4627 as that horse with the cart (carriage) in front of her, Raichase?

Hi All

Pardon me if I'm wrong but from what I've heard ALL the SMR 10's are under herritage listing and/or protection and therefore can't be scrapped?

Cheers

Excuse me....baking powder? Is R 766 nearly finished? If it's true then it's about fricking TIME! Then again I wont believe it until I actually see pictures of it. And here I was thinking that it had been turned into Daewoos!!

That they are. There will certainly be no scrapping of a 10 class with out a lot of bloodshed.

Does this have some factual basis or is it just some fanciful origin. Why would it have any worse accreditation problems than any other recently restored loco? Source for your information?

Will the word from one of the original consortium do whose name I am not going to reveal on this forum.

According to the South Maitland Railway's 10 Class Wikipedia page, it reads that Chris Richard put all of his locomotives and rollingstock for sale, I wonder who written that up?

I wonder who is going to buy what? or whatever the plan is.

I have heard who has bought the 10 class engines (6 of 7) but it is perhaps not for me to say here.  I did find a photo recently although it is from last year.  She looks pretty complete though http://www.flickr.com/photos/jayseedali/6293632583/in/set-72157627884447965/

What interests me is who will be running the engine when it is operational?

Is this 7th 10 class engine, that this person didn't brought is SMR27? The only thing that remains on her is bunker, chassis, running gear and wheels

R766inc, which includes Steamrail as a share holder. Happy to be corrected if that's changed.

Speaking of R 766, from 2006 to now has been a very long "year" to how long it was supposed to have taken to be converted to SG and running again!
