, I hope you have the cart ahead of the horse here, I really do! We've not yet heard for sure if anything is to be scrapped at all...
I hope they don't scrap any of the SMR Tanks.
I certainly agree with you - I assume they would only be scrapped if they are beyond repair (or even beyond static preservation).
4472 and 7350 are operational but won't be able to run, because of the Hunter Expressway building over the junction between Rothbury and Branxton.
I'm playing catch up here - will the expressway cut the line off completely?
No need to preserve or even restore both CPH 16 & 31 because there are plenty of them maintained and operational around NSW.
While I agree with the fact that plenty are preserved, it would be a shame to just cut them up based on that reasoning alone. They are a perfect unit for smaller heritage railways, and unless their condition is beyond salvage, it would be preferable to see them offered to smaller operators (State Mine, Oberon, etc) before just discarding them.
I'd suspect if anything is to be scrapped at all it would be passenger carriages that are beyond salvage, and are falling apart. Better to get something for them, than nothing...
