Whether or not that statement is premature I do not know though.

They maybe appear in the Standard Working Timetable as Air-conditioned, but the reality doesn't always match up due to operational reasons.

I've added to your post. As Blackadder has said, operational reasons (trains out of service for repairs, overhauls, etc) dictate that S Sets will do some runs.

K99 being even more interesting than any other K Set on this run - K99 is made up of two of the former Newcastle 2-car sets.

An eight car S set was operating an afternoon clockwise City Circle service on 11/06. So now that all of the Waratahs are in service, how many S set carriages remain in service? Recall there was talk that circa 160 carriages would remain, but this may have included those to be put in warm storage. Presumably some will be required when the South West line opens next year.

I understand to operate the "shuttle" service when the line opens, two 4-car M Set trains will be used, so really only one 8-car train would be needed to be replaced due to the line opening. When the line is fully integrated (2015?), then yeah, more 8-car trains will be required.

192 cars (48 sets) was the much talked about number required to be retained until 2017.

Please refer to the posting from 7 June on the previous page for a Listing of S sets retained.
These cars are now maintained by Flemington Maintenance Centre and are either in Revenue Service or in warm storage at Enfield.

There's at least 2 8 car trains running out of Campbelltown daily (ie 4 sets). They operate the 7:28am and 7:33am services that depart from Campbelltown directly (ie straight from yard to platform, not from Macarthur).

There appears to be still two 'competing' Electric train groups in Sydney.

The creation of Transport Heritage NSW has probably change the playing field some what. Have both groups signed on with THNSW ?

While any group /  individual could probably buy a car(s) via the scappies, the allocation of 'heritage' cars to groups will be the job of THNSW.
