Hi All,

I just received my "unfortunately this time we are not taking your application any further" letter from Aurizon regarding the Newcastle applications.

Good luck to all those who have progressed through to the next stage.

Hi all,

I have recently been accepted for an interview for the Newcastle trainee jobs. I was wondering if there are any current loco drivers, or recent trainees who might be able to give me some tips on the interview process. Has been a long time since I have had to interview for a job so am quite nervous.

Cheers guys.

Grats mate, I don't know what an Aurizon interview is like but I was invited to a Freightliner one last year, be prepared for situational questions like : Describe one time when you faced a problem at work and how you overcame it or something to that effect. I think these type of questions are common nowdays to determine whether you fit the culture of the organisation.

Good Luck!!!

Hi all. Have been reading along on this forum for a long Tim but just decided to join.
I applied for the trainee loco drivers with Aurizon on 13th November 2014 for QLD. I got a text msg and email yesterday (17th) inviting me to do the online psychometric testing. The job is still advertised and hasn't closed yet so My questions are:

1. Would everyone who applied have been contacted to complete the testing or have I somehow managed to survive the first cull?

2. What sort of questions should I expect in this online test? I have 2 days to complete it by.

3. I live interstate and wrote on my application that I'm willing to relocate will this effect my application and make it less competitive?

4. Any tips at all to help me through the process is much appreciated. This is the first time I've applied for a driver job.

Thanks Smile

Hi tootoot,

I applied too and was a bit surprised to not see much posted about it yet. In response to your post:

  1. Yep, got invited to assessment centre too

  2. Well you've already done the test by now, it was pretty quick

  3. I've emailed to ask about the interstate thing, as I'm in the same boat. I'm not sure, but hopefully I'll find out soon

  4. This my first time applying too.

Anyway, good luck with your application Very Happy

Cheers

Aurizon are after qualified drivers for a number of depots including:

  • Gladstone

  • Rockhampton

  • Stanwell

  • Cloncurry

  • Bowen

  • Mt Isa

  • Toowoomba

  • Emerald

Interestingly in this job advert, there is the potential for relocation expenses and on occasion subsidised accommodation, not something you see everyday.

How do you think you went? I am pretty happy with how I went. I don't know if I have done enough, but I have done my best.
She said there are 54 positions across QLD and over 3000 applicants!

Yeah it's hard to know if you went well or not, but I'm relieved that it's finished. I did my best to keep calm during the tests,  even though it was frustrating making a mistake here and there, but there wasn't anything you could prepare for anyway.  Now we just have to wait for results...

3000 applicants is a lot though, the recruitment team must be working pretty hard.

Good luck to the both of you.did they interview as well or just the vts test?

Has anyone heard anything from Aurizon about the trainee train driver positions or seen their status change yet. I completed the VTS last Friday.

Sorry to hear... When did you sit your assessment centre? I did mine on 27/11/14 and havent heard back yet.. Feels like the longest wait of my life!!!!
  ningshing80 Station Master

Sorry to here that amob, I still am waiting to here back. I email recruitment about the timeframes of when we will be notified of progression, and they just told me they are still going through the process. I will be shattered if I don't make it through. My status also says 'Selection Process'. I am hoping that is a good sign. I must say that although it seems like forever, that I have been waiting, but Aurizon have been quite fast compared to other company's that I have experienced. Fingers crossed though.

How did they notify you of your non selection, if you don't mind me asking?
