Hi All,

I am just wondering whether you might have any information regarding the following:-

1. In what month would the commencement of the traineeship begin, and where would the classroom be situated?

2. How many positions are available?

3. For people that don't currently live in Rockhampton, would there be possible subsidised accommodation provided, and maybe relocation assistance?

I realise that no one has really heard whether they are even progressing to the interview stage yet, but I thought maybe someone may have some insight into the process.

Cheers

Hi ningshing
I was told there were 54 positions available and the traineeships would commence in march or april.I was also told that i wouldn't hear anything till late january and they emailed me on 9/12 so i wouldn't rely on that.

Wow,

March and April is a long time too be waiting for the commencement of a job. I finish my contracted position pretty soon, and although I really want this role within Aurizon, waiting 3-4 months is just too long to go without a job. I wouldn't feel right in accepting another position while I am waiting to start another role (if I even get that far), when there are 3000 applicant and 54 positions only available. If I don't hear from Aurizon this week regarding whether I have made it to the interview stage, I think that will be a good indication to start moving on.

Hi Ningshing80,
I understand your frustration with the waiting period. I have been applying for 2-3 years now and have been through all of the stages of the application and been told I am unsuccessful at the end. I know train drivers that had this happen three times over 5 years before they are successful, I also know other drivers that got in on their first application.

It is a waiting process and one that can take a long time.

cheers

Hi Barrett2309,

If you don't mind me asking, but what type of feedback did you receive back from Aurizon when the unsuccessful application came through at the end of the process. Did they indicate specific shortfalls etc? I am thinking the trainee recruitment process is on the same time every year, so from your experience when do you usually hear about interviews etc.is it before or after xmas.

My wife applied for the latest positions and had her VTS testing last Thursday. She got an email inviting her to an interview on Saturday. She was told at the testing that they want to finalise the positions before Christmas.

I am guessing they will send invites and organise interviews per depot, like they did for assessment centres.

My application status is still saying 'Selection Process' and I have not heard from them yet.. I am glad I havent yet though as I am currently offshore at work and dont fly back in until christmas night. Am hoping I get contact in my 2 weeks rnr.

Recruitment told us at our assessment centre not to expect to hear from them before christmas. Maybe they are processing some depot's quicker than others.. I hope thats the case and I get an interview!!

It may be that the have just sent out the invites for the interviews they are doing at Pring. I wouldn't give up hope if you were at a different venue.

Hi all,

Has anyone received a email from Aurizon on interviews or unsuccessful applications?

Haven't heard anything yet. My app status still says 'selection process'.. Fingers crossed. Just found out I'm on my last swing. Being made redundant after this.. Sad

Sorry to here that. I am unfortunately in the same predicament. My contract finishes in Mid January, and I have been applying for a number of jobs. I really don't want to get into the situation where, I have to take a job which I am only half interested in because I haven't received any confirmations on progress from this application.  I have got my hopes set on Trainee Train Driver role.
I emailed HR yesterday, but they are closed down until the 5th January, so I guess we won't find out the progress until at least than. Mine also say "Selection Process". I would have thought there would be more comments on this forum from people completing interviews or asking the question about " Has anyone heard anything". I have applied for Rockhampton, and I haven't seen anyone mention on this thread that they have been for a interview. It's really quiet. Maybe there is another thread everybody is using?

My contract wasn't up until March but was meant to have been automatically renewed til October but they are cutting numbers to start winding down. We will find out for sure who is going and who is staying via email on 5th jan. I have a feeling I won't be back.

I applied for rockhampton too.  Haven't heard anything either. I just honestly think they haven't gotten around to the rockhampton interviews yet! I'd love a heads up on the kind of questions they ask though...

I really really want this job so bad. I haven't wanted a job more than I have this one. It is what will set my career up, allow us to settle the family in a nice area and let the kids start at and stay at the same school. It's more than just a job for me..

Well, hopefully it will work out for the both of us. I am not sure what type of questions specifically they ask, but I am sure there is a comment or thread on this site that will be able to give you the heads up. Its my first time I have applied for a Aurizon Job, so its all new.  I cannot seem to find any relative information about what the training program is like i.e. Locations, pay levels whilst in traineeship including location allowances etc, expected timeframes for completions or whether or not relocation allowance is provided. I would imagine the trainee program runs in line with the VET specifications, however EBA agreement currently being debated at the moment, is a useful tool to find some of these grey area's, but there is no guarantee that will pass.

I passed the VTS, but after two weeks short of six months from initial application - unsuccessful - I guess I suck at Panel Interviews or thirty years of heavy haul freight train driving means nothing to them. I might have to start driving school buses to feed my kids! lol

Thanks for the feedback Cuthbert. With the experience you have, its hard to understand why they hire you.

The jobs will come, currently we have sent 20 drivers out of Perth to Gladstone for six months on expenses, so expect twenty positions to open up their soon, once our guys finish their stints, within the next three months.

Relocation is normally only paid for current employee's transferring from one depot to another, so don't expect that they will offer that.

Cheers

Have a happy new year to all, and I wish you the best of luck next year. Hopefully we will all, find out whether we progressed to the interview stage early next year.

I just heard from HR, apparently there will be a delay in the process. She didn't say how long, just said they are still processing through the applicants,

From my experience it really is a case of "no news is good news".
