Aurizon jobs

Thanks for the update AMOB. I am not sure how I went. I am getting pretty worried too, tootoot. Surely they must be finished analysing applicants by now, and the VTS scores. Going off some of the previous replys on this thread, other applicants have mentioned the start days for training is around March-April, and given that most working employees before leaving their job will give 2-4 Weeks notice, the interview and medical process for Aurizon must take long, to keep in line with the March-April timeframes. There hasn't even been many people other than amob, indicating on unsuccessful applications

Just got an email basically saying they are unable to give me an update regarding my application or a time frame as to when I will be notified. Doesn't sound promising. Perhaps they haven't even checked the results of the rockhampton assessment centre's? I am going to have to start applying for other jobs. We just can't afford me to be out of work for months waiting to hear back from something that doesn't even look promising. Sad

I can really relate to the predicament you are in Tootoot. This is my last week of my contracted work, and I still haven't heard anything from Aurizon. I was hoping they would pull the trigger on the face to face interviews this week, but who knows. Maybe that's just wishful thinking. I will be applying for other jobs anyway, and I would suggest you do the same if you want to keep bread on the table. Its possible the jobs may not even eventuate.

Even the start date of Mar/Apr will probably be the first group to start. Could possibly be a group starting as late as September. Depends on which depot applicants are to successful with.

Well, you can count me out if the start date of Rockhampton is in September. I cannot understand why there is such a difficulty to send out an update in where the process is at. Its been nearly 2 months since I officially applied for the role, I know the number of applicants would have been large initially, however after the VTS Testing etc. I am sure the numbers would have been quiet manageable. I was under the understanding that all the classroom training would be completed in Rockhampton, so I am not sure they why would be going through per depot. Can anyone give a valid explanation? Isn't Rockhampton the central regional hub for these jobs?

Cheers for the info amob, hopefully if i do progress to the interview stage it will be before Xmas and not in January.
I will update the forum once I know more.

Got an invitation for a panel interview today!! I have my interview on Tuesday at Rockhampton! I'm surprised and excited!!

Well done mate, that's awesome. I didn't get the email, so I might have missed out this time. Awesome result for you thought.
  tootoot Station Master

Thanks mate.  Your email might be on its way. Don't lose hope yet!!

Mine still says selection process, but I also applied for Rockhampton as well. So I don't hold much hope if I didn't get a email, I would imagine they would send emails to the preferred applicants, maybe I might be lucky and someone can't attend, lol. I won't be holding my breath though.

Was Rockhampton your first preference?

My first preference was Stanwell. I added a 2nd and a 3rd initially but they haven't been placed in my answers.

I've been told that they are interviewing and filling positions one depot at a time. Pring has been completed and Rocky is the current depot being sorted. When they get to Stanwell, that is when you'll most likely hear something. They seem to be only concerned with first preferences choices only. Sorry to say, but the railway game is one that requires a lot of patience.

Ok, thanks. Maybe I will get lucky and score a interview. My brother in law is a train driver for Aurizon, and he seems to think that will be calling for a few Trainees there. Fingers crossed.

Had my interview. The interviews are for Stanwell. There are 12 positions. 6 have been filled and they are now interviewing for the other 6. They are interviewing on merit order and will be offering positions based on merit. Will know within 2 weeks how I went. Training will start end of March..

Thanks for the update mate, good luck. Was there many there? Looks like I missed out this time.
  tootoot Station Master

Not necessarily Ningshing. . They are putting through trainees all year this year and will not be recruiting. They are going to call and interview off the merit list as they need them. They want 120 drivers for Stanwell.  Fifo and residential so I wouldn't lose hope yet!
  ningshing80 Station Master

That sounds really promising, unfortunately, if I don't make the cut this round, I can't afford too sit around and wait for Aurizon to contact me for a merit list. Good luck too all.

Hey Ningshing it's toot toot. For some reason my username won't work anymore.  Just thought I'd let you know I had my cat 1 medical last week and my functional capacity test today. They did my reference checks last week too.  Doc and physio both said they couldn't fault my examinations. So now I'm just waiting to hear if I get a start or not!!

I applied for a Trades Assistant job even though I'm a Boilermaker by trade. Got as far as a panel interview. Which went really exceptionally well. Answered all their questions and scenarios swimmingly with Safety consciousness and procedure based examples. Got a big pat on the back on the way out the door with a "Very well done, good job" from the Maintenance Superintendent annnnd 5 weeks later a decline email and a phone call with a word by word spoken of the decline email.

But, the position got re posted again a month later. So I'm having another crack

Hi Guys, I finally got some feedback from Aurizon on my results. I passed quite convincingly, however one result on the bouncing ball which although I passed it was below other applicants. I am disappointed, and the results apparently stay on the system for 5 yrs, but I can resit the test if I want to improve that one result, all other results were in the 86% area. Has anyone heard if they will be offering anymore jobs this year.

Aurizon have advertised for train crews in Adelaide - two different job ads for local (Adelaide metro) and for intermodal relay working (over to Perth and back). Dunno anything about number of positions.

The jobs were on the Aurizon site. Don't know if they've appeared in Seek or Jobseeker, etc. yet.

Craig.

Hi Craig,

I was applying for a trainee loco driver position. I will have to wait until some more positions become available (if). The recruiter said, I wouldn't have too resit the assessment again. Just a waiting game, maybe some will become available at the end of the year.

Much of the activity with hiring is based around predicted improvements in economic conditions globally and locally which normally leads to increases in demand for rail operations, generates new contracts, etc. after a period of contraction.

No operators with the exception perhaps of the government passenger rail operators tend to be insulated from longer-term shifts in the economy and trends in demand especially for mined commodities.

But all operators need to manage those factors alongside changes in 'churning' of employment where people change jobs either within rail or go to a different industry.

It's all about being able to meet future contract requirements.
