The A-City Trains look like a sleek well engineered train. Better then the off the shelf cheap and nasty XCrap Trains we have in Victoria

Spotted the following in the last couple of days.

Unless I am mistaken it is the vehicle part of the ETCS equipment.  These transducers have been fitted behind the outer bogie on both motor cars of 4001, 4002 and 4011. The mounting pillar and bracket without tranducer have also been fitted to 4003 and 4015.

I passed a unit heading west though Stawell about 9:30 (eastern) this morning.   4019A or B I think - a bit hard to tell  at 90kmh!

If it was Driver cab forward then it'll be 4019B (4019A was on the float for an exhibition in Melbourne a few weeks ago and set to be delivered straight afterwards)

The driver cab was trailing I think - you don't get much of a chance to look at it at 90kph.   It was making a good speed.

A solitary trailer car was sitting in the unloading road at Seaford Depot this afternoon. I assume it is 4019T.  It was not there on Monday.

Now that the Seafords are almost all electric, a 31xx will have to make a special trip to Seaford to assemble the new deliveries.

Are the evening weekday workings now all electric?  Also has there been any sign of 4017 lately?  I haven't seen it in service yet.

So 4018 has arrived. That was unannounced. 4019 seemed to be the one delivered.

There was an unidentified unit sitting in the shed at lunchtime while 4018 was out.

ON visiting SA last week I have to say that I noticed the quality of ride has improved on both Seaford and Gawler lines - didn't ride the entire length of the Seaford line but I feel that some of the issues with higher speed swaying appear to have been resolved on the 4000's. They do vibrate and squeal a bit in low-speed braking but I'm sure they'll find a fix for that too.

Those constant announcements about 'mind the gap' are irritating though... can't they restrict that to stations where the gap is actually an issue!

Driving around Adelaide, I was interested to see lots of progress on the next stage of the South Road motorway project with the demolition of entire swathes of businesses and houses through Croydon Park but nothing yet on the Outer Harbor line fly-over (maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough?). South Road is so much better to drive on than it was years ago with the northern connector to the Port Expressway but it was still terribly slow stop-start traffic from the Anzac Hwy underpass all the way to Darlington when I drove near peak hour the other day.

I must say, the new Southern Expressway is a breeze to drive on, what an excellent piece of road that is now. I'm so glad that Mike Rann got around to fixing that terrible mistake of Dean Brown's in making it a cut-price one-way job, it was annoying having to check which way it was going before you used it.

I small point of correction. The piece of elevated roadway between the Port River Expressway and Regency Park is known as the Superway and is part of the South Road Motorway. The Northern Connector is the name given to the proposed road between the Northern Expressway and the Superway. "Superway" is a portmanteau of "Super" meaning above and "way" the same as "Subway" with "Sub" meaning below.

Okay, thanks. Not being a local I don't use these things all the time. It's good to see lots going on anyway.

Also notice that the Jumbos are still in use on the Gawler line in peak times. I didn't have time to try and ride one but I suppose their days in service are ticking down with every new A-City delivery, although I also noticed there are still plenty of 3000's in service on the Seaford line.

At the risk of further derailing the thread can anyone tell me what's happening with the former Hills site in Edwardstown? I'm guessing apartments... you can never have enough apartments...

Basically yes, High Density housing AKA apartments, with a proposal of a new train station between Edwardstown and Woodland Park (yeah right, no dobt if the Government fully pays for it. I think even the Government will turn around and tell them where to stick it).

It looks as if sanding gear is being fitted to the A-Cities.  In the last few days I've seen it on 4008, 4016 and 4017.  Photo below.

ATP equipment has now been fitted to 4016 and 4017.

4011 remains the only unit with horns in the coupler housing.

They seem to be giving them a rest today and running at least some 3000's on Seaford line.

Weekends are all DEMUs at the moment due to rectification work on the overhead lines.

The last thing they need is to 'rest' the whole EMU fleet, they are running out of places to park them when not in use!

JAP  ....  EMUs were also running today. Whilst at Keswick around Midday it was DMU followed by EMU, then DMU, then EMU

Overhead Cable rectification work is being done during the Midnight and 5am slot.

Could it be that they need to keep the running of 3000 Class current on the Seaford line including the drivers' currency as well?

Great job of explaining the all-DEMU service yesterday and the crew working on the overheads next to Tonsley Junction Rolling Eyes

With nearly all the A-City's in service is it time to start running some peak trains as 6 car sets? The 1720 seaford would be a start as that is usually pretty full.
