G'day xpt45,

I have quite afew 3d models and 6 routes to complete, but these will take time to finish because I don't have much time on my hands due to other important things in life so my MSTS and 3d modelling time is going at a very slow pace these days

The good news is that only one of my routes is nearing completion, it's a Queensland route based on the Cairns to Mareeba section and it's going very well but I haven't decided what era I should build this route in as I only have very little information available basically all related to todays era in track diagrams and C&G diagrams but whatever I choose I'm sure it will still be a terrific route once completed... If I can build the route in 3 different era's this would be even better, it would show from the first to the 3rd Cairns Railway Stations Cairns has had from the time the line was built to it's modern use for tourist to Kuranda... But as I said I only have very little information and I can only do what I can to make this route happen, of course it's not going to be 100% perfect but as long as I get this route done I will be happy... Anyway, I will post more information whenever I can once I've layed all the track from Cairns to Mareeba and added roads, scenery objects etc, etc... So the only announcement I will post is when it's ready for screenies and then the finally distributed

As for any future 3d models no announcements will be made, you just have to keep an eye out and things will come slowly

I wish someone would make a new MSTS route developer as I try to create Tasmania routes and the developer keeps crashing.
Pain in the bum.. surely there should be a alternative one by now.

There's Railworks, if you're willing to learn how to use 3Dcrafter and have the patience to build stuff in it. In the Railworks RE you just drag the track, instead of selecting specific pieces, and the graphics are a tad better

There are quite a few around the traps with this wish..............

Openrails has this on the todo list, there has been a good deal of pressure on the OR developers lately to move it up the list and produce some form of simple and reliable route editor post 1.0, we will have to wait and see...............

Of course starting work on a RE means ceasing most work on developing the main sim. it depends on what the devs think is most important.

The MSTS route editor can be fickle but here are two things improved the stability / extended the frequency of crashing for me.

The more RAM I had the better. The 2 computers I have used the Route Editor on extensively  had RAM with 1 and 4GB respectively. The 4GB machine was less prone to crashing.

CTRL + S is my friend. I would lay a few pieces of track and then save, lay some more track and save. After a while it just becomes second nature to save every couple of minutes. It is important that you ensure that no objects are selected at the time of the save.

We all know how that feels, the trick to this is save your work every 5 minutes 'If only there was an auto save function it would have been alot easier' it's one of my favorite past times trying to build a route is forgetting to save because we do get carried away and enjoy what we are trying to attempt to achive... But if you save your work and make back ups you won't go wrong Smile

And if your track starts disappearing at certain parts of the route, save and exit RE straight away and reload your route so you can continue to build it

And remember, backup reguarly. No one can use hard drive space as an excuse these days, make a backup every time you build something you particuarly like. That way if anything stops working you can swap world files around and salvage the situation.
