Greetings all and sundry
Anyone know where I can see a photo / drawing of head end power van BP 97 when it was in use in Spirit colours back in 1961?
I need a good side on photo or drawing. I've seen the only photo of BP 97 I can find on the net, but this was long after it was returned to normal.
The only photo I've ever seen was on page 110 of the October 1961 "Railway Transportation" showing a B class with two VFK cars and one VBK (presumably VBK 1 and VFK 1 and 2) with the BP and a van (CA or ZLP). It was said the vehicles were on test on broad gauge but that they had re-entered service on BG. "Railway Transportation" is available on DVD in PDF format.
Clearly the photo was an official VR photo, but the reproduction isn't great.
The BP has the BX Commonwealth bogies (just discernable by the damper struts) and has louvres on the upper half of both doors. It is painted blue with gold lines. The doors are presumably from a VP van to provide ventilation for the diesel generator.
There were no exhaust stacks visible.
