Sometime next year.

The second page of the above PDF document outlines the timeline for the project. According to it X'trapolis trains are expected on the Frankston line between October and December 2015.

According to Mr Mulder, PTV are going to begin running X'Trapolis trains to Frankston in the "second half of 2014".
I also spoke to MP Lorraine Wreford at Mordialloc Railway Station on Monday and she said August this year.
I know this is significantly earlier than originally announced but given there's an election in November I believe there is every chance that this information is correct.

Whys that?

This is going to be fun for all the people on the Frankston line wanting to ride on these "new" trains. It'll be a real wake up call, literally, as in shaken awake.
Then the residents will start their belly aching about "dem new trains be too loud".

The Frankston line is hardly the 4WD track that is located beyond Greensborough, Croydon or Ferntree Gully (the up platform at Upper Ferntree Gully is still using jointed track), and X'Traps ride better at speed than going at light-rail pace as they currently do on the Clifton Hill/Burnley groups due to the light-rail-style station gaps like Jolimont, West Richmond, North Richmond, Collingwood (boo), Victoria Park, Clifton Hill, Rushall (and that ridiculously sharp, low speed curve), Merri, Northcote, Croxton; Glenferrie, Auburn, Camberwell, Riversdale (complete with tram square to slow things down even further), Willison, Hartwell, Burwood, Ashburton, Alamein (I could have stopped counting at Willison, but as the Alamein line is so short anyway...).

Isn't the X-Traps going to start running on the Werribee and Williamstown lines as well since they are part of the Cross City group as what I heard?

What do you mean by "at speed"? You don't even need to do 80 from Frankston to Mentone or you'll run ahead of the timetable.

They're supposed to start running before 2015 and thats getting pretty close so we should expect to see them soon?

Whats the supposed point of all this. I dont get it.

Ive heard a couple testing very late at night over the last few weeks.

Makes about as much sense as the vaulted exercise of removing some of the level crossings. No ones checked the water table here I think...lol

Close minor roads on both sides ala New Street gates, win-win. Oh wait, private cars and Victoria...

Basically like the single Hitachi towards the end of last year that would run a down and an up service then go away for the rest of the day hahaha

There is at least one set in regular service now.

The divide between new types of rolling-stock is a ridiculous hangover from Kennett's privatisation; I don't know why the fact that they overcame the problems in interoperation is even news. The trains themselves aren't even new; they're from other parts of the network.

As a resident along the Frankston line I have been getting non-stop bombardment from my local member about this and frankly it annoys me. After four years, this is all they have to show me? No wonder they're going to lose on November 29.

Xtrap, motors 173M - 176M, stables at Burnley sidings, comes out about 10am and does two Frankstons, no cross city running. Keep your eyes open if interested.

Are you sure its 10am? I swear I've seen it earlier than that.

I think it starts it's long lunch around 10am.
I caught it from Richmond today, it arrived at Flinders Street platform 7 at 9:50, then headed toward Richmond as empty cars.
  shaun001 Station Master

It's Frankston runs are weekdays:
5:30am to Frankston all stations

6:38am Flinders Street Express
(Express Cheltenham to Caulfield - Malvern to South Yarra)

7:37am to Frankston all stations

8:44am Flinders Street all stations

I've caught it to work twice including the express today which I thought ran really well. It wasn't a rough ride at all and keeps to the timetable.
The express run appears to be the standard speed too.

Was hoping not to have to put up with them on the Frankston Line.......Politicians must think xcraps are a fabulous train.......The only real benefit
of an xcrap is the horn, they will scare the smeg out of ferrals that run the ped crossing next to the box at Frankston.

Weren't there already a few Siemens sets with X'Trap horns?

Its just a bloody xcrap...God knows what all the fuss is about. Still an 'old' train not NEW like the pollies want us to believe. Yes some are freshbuilts but their vintage is the same effectively as the Siemens.

The thing that would improve the service of the line ( as well as the mental health of the drivers etc ) is if those selfish bastards stopped using the railways as an "out"
