50 level crossings to be removed

  justapassenger Minister for Railways

I had really wondered if they were going to close one side of William St to through traffic, to stop it being a rat-run around the station and to make the area much more pedestrian friendly.  Guess not looking at that - cars rule.

The level crossing project is mostly about cars, so little surprise there.

"have to cross the road"
Yeah nah Ross, they are one way streets that can have parking bay on either side, nothing unusual about that.
justarider
You are right that it is perfectly legal to park on the right hand side of a one-way street.  The problem is that the buses themselves only have doors on the left side for the passengers.  This is why I think it is the only real way for buses to circulate in that direction.

So this is aim we are heading for the end of 2019.

36,37,38: Park, Charman and Mentone roads as part of the Cheltenham/Mentone project
39,40,41,42: Moreland , Reynald, Munro and Bell street as part of the Moreland-Bell project
43: Evans Road which will connect with the opening of the Hallam road duplication project by the end of the year

Maybe:
44: Cardinia Road, possibly since I saw significant progress there on the LXRA page.

Slowcoach, you mean Greens Road right? Abbots Road was grade separated in 2018.

Also I think the Pakenham line upgrade will happen after 2020-2021.

Slowcoach probably does mean Greens Rd.

However Abbotts Rd is getting a second rail bridge as part of the duplication works as well. Unfortunately, these works are expected to be completed in 2023, rather than 21. This is especially true for Greens Rd which is likely to be the staging point for the Eumemmerring Creek bridge installation.

It is a shame that the LXRP didn't at least install the pylons for the second bridge at Abbotts Rd during its removal. It would have reduced the overall disruptions to the area going forwards.

Also, for those who don't know, the government is planning to build a new road bridge over the rail line to finally connect Remington Dr and Pound Rd. There is no level crossing here, just two dead-end roads full of trucks. I don't know the timeline on this, but I'd expect to see the beginning of this work towards the end of the Cranbourne Line duplication.

The the second bridge at Abbotts Road Is going directly above, where the former ground level line once was, so disruptions are been kept to a minimal.

All trees between Maroondah Highway and Johns St along Williams St (both East & West) have been removed. There are a number of shipping containers inside temporary fencing, hard up against the High School's maintenance area that may be for LXRP but I'm not 100% about that.

Williamstown north crossing is confirmed to be grade separated with a trench.

Do not read too much into those shipping containers, they were there 3  years ago when I attended a High School Reunion.

LXRA post from Facebook today confirms site establishment at Lilydale. Expect more activity as works ramp up over the coming months.

A small tangential update on the Evans Rd level crossing.

The reason for the crossing being closed, the smeg intersection at South Gippsland Hwy, has been resolved as part of the Hallam Rd Upgrade. If it were not for the current LXRP works, VicRoads would be reopening the road to through traffic.

From the new track configuration illustrated on vicsig, I deduce new UP Flinders Street services would arrive on platform 1, Cheltenham services terminate on platform 2, and DOWN Frankston services still use platform 3.

a fair bit of preperation work is now under way in Mooroolbark, a temp. Car Park is being established on the cnr of Hull and Cardigan Rds, and their base camp has been established next to Brice Ave oval where the old tennis courts were located.

I'm surprised that they didn't provision for UP trains to able to enter Platform 2 to head back to Frankston?}
(Ie. disruptions at Highett or Moorabbin etc)

I wonder if DOWN Frankstons will use Platform 2 at all times except for when there is a terminating Cheltenham service, in which case they would use Platform 3. (based on how Platforms are used between Moorabbin and Caulfield)

Maybe they allow for running into Platform 1, shunt to Heather Grove, and Turnback to Platform 2 to start a return Frankston Service.

Unlike my last post about the temporary fencing at the Lilydale High maintenance site, there is definitely LXRP related temporary fencing in place on the south west corner of the John St roundabout on William St East, with at least one shipping container in place, and a small excavator at work within the fencing, possibly doing underground services relocation.

Went past the Sth Gippsland Hwy LX today. While the LXRP website is saying it is still in planning, fencing has gone up as well establishment of site offices.

I didn't get too close a look at the site itself, but they've dug up some road medians at the intersection with Princes Hwy. It seems earthworks are beginning to a limited degree on site.

LXRP has announced that Talbot Crescent has reopened to through traffic. This reconnects the road to Toorak Rd, which had the level crossing removed earlier in April this year.

https://levelcrossings.vic.gov.au/media/news/talbot-crescent-reopening

All that is left is some landscaping works so that the northern end of Tooronga Park is fit for public use. The park is expected to reopen in its entirety in mid-July.

Went by again, and the Metro Petroleum petrol station that is on the east side of the South Gippsland Hwy has been closed. Its been cordoned off with temporary fencing and I expect to see it demolished by years end.

It sits roughly where the new road bridge is expected to be, so demolition should be the first major step of site preparations on the south side of the train line. At the moment all of the current works seem to be north of the train line.

The Deer Park crossings have been brought forward to 2023. These projects are precursor to Melton & WV Projects, interesting they are being pushed up the list. One would hope provision for an additional track pair are part of both removals.
