Clovelly Park / Chrysler Park

The Wikipedia page for 'Clovelly Park' states "For a time, Clovelly Park was also referred to as Chrysler Park based on misprints on street directories labelling the train station as 'Chrysler Park' railway station, which was attributable to the presence of the Chrysler Australia car plant...", suggesting the station was never officially named Chrysler Park. I find this hard to believe as every Tonsley line timetable I've ever seen, until the station was change to 'Clovelly Park', had the station as Chrysler Park. How could the State Transport Authority not know its correct name? Can anyone clarify this apparent discrepancy?

My understanding is that Chrysler wanted, even expected that Clovelly Park would be renamed "Chrysler Park", and used that name as its postal address. The SA government drew the line at naming the station...

Allan, your understanding is that from construction, it first opened as 'Clovelly Park' ?

I have seen a photo of the station name board and it reads 'Chrysler Park' (it's in the NRM collection). I think it was taken some time in the early 1980s.

I don't know what it was called when it opened, but the station was "Chrysler Park" in the 1960s. The Chrysler plant was "Chrysler Park", but I do not think that any suburb was ever "Chrysler Park".

Originally, Clovelly Park was to named Tonsley, but the name was changed to Chrysler Park prior to opening.  The change of name to Clovelly Park happened in 1984.  For the record, Tonsley was to be named Sturt, but was also renamed prior to opening.
