Well, given how the trains are on the standard gauge, they'd be heading north where the broad gauge ain't.

It's worth reading Hansard today, and also this article in Stock and land:
https://www.stockandland.com.au/story/6466499/rfa-dismisses-political-partisanship-claims/

Some incredible political spin and half-truths being flung about (Portland?!?)

But perhaps some light at the end of the tunnel?:

"The government is now required to submit a revised business case to the Commonwealth by December that outlines how the final stages will be completed."

must be seeking another load of cash for a business case to be required.

The state has the money to fund the fixes just start.
  Carnot Minister for Railways

An interesting stoush between Ali Cupper and Dan Andrews in Parliament yesterday.  If only the Robinvale to Manangatang rail line was fixed and part of the Murray Basin Rail plan:

"Ms CUPPER (Mildura) (11:27): My supplementary question is also to the Premier. Your government committed $2.9 million for urgent repairs to the Robinvale-Sea Lake Road, which I acknowledge, but these repairs were piecemeal and served only to restore the 100-kilometre speed limit that was reduced to an untenable 80 kilometres earlier this year. Even after these repairs, the road will not be capable of handling the 10000 additional truck movements that will result from the stalled standardisation of the Murray Basin rail line.  Many of our roads need attention, but as a starting point will the Premier commit to funding the $30 million needed to rebuild the Robinvale-Sea Lake Road for the benefit of our community and the economy of the entire state?

Mr ANDREWS (Mulgrave—Premier) (11:27): I thank the member for Mildura for her supplementary question and for her acknowledgment that there was a $2.9 million investment, principally to repair the works that needed to be done on the shoulders of that road, particularly to get the speed limit back up to 100 kilometres.  I do not for a moment underestimate that traffic volumes on that road will grow, and ultimately—whether it is 500 vehicles a day, 5000 or 50 000—to each of the local communities who use that road and others, it is an important link. There are decisions that have to be made, there are competing projects across the whole state, and there is never in one year enough money to upgrade every single road across the state. I am not in a position to announce a $30 million allocation today—and, again, announcements on the run like that probably would not be worth a great deal—but I am more than happy to engage with the member for Mildura on this issue and on any other issue she seeks to raise with me. She is a great champion on behalf of her community, and we will keep working with her."

Obviously Dan doesn't mind if the conga line of trucks continues to grow....

Let's hope we can get access to this for a good read but I am curious to the scope of the works which will quickly tell us if there will be another failure.

The proof will be in the pudding.  One aspect that might be intriguing is whether Maroona to Portland gets upgraded to 21T axle load so it can better compete with the other ports (and justify the Ararat - Maryborough line and perhaps the re-railing of it?)

Is this Australia or the colony of Victoria. The Fed's went halves with the conversion. Dan is stimulating on no-doze. Dan offered the mess to ARTC great idea.  Now the Fed's need to stimulate the economy and this should be priority number for Australia.

So Qube are apparently constructing a hard stand area at North Shore next to track A which is the most easterly siding north of where the former Pivot sidings veer off to the right. Track A is standard gauge, is this new traffic (what ever it may be) due to the Murray Basin works or is it unrelated?
  Carnot Minister for Railways

My understanding is that it's to load material for the cement being produced in Melb.

And it might mean SG track being converted to BG so it can be railed direct to Dandenong???

Think of it as the opposite of MBRP....

The alterations and useability at North Shore  Yard have been held up by Victracks  "BLUE  HILLS"  saga of commissioning the remote operation of Noth Geelong "C"  from Centrol. Finally finsihed last week .

QUBE has already started Stage 1 in now carrying containerized cement from  Dynon to  just south of Dandenong on the Cranbourne  Line.

Stage 2 once works are finished in north Shore Yard is that the containerized cement will the be loaded and originate from North Shore Yard on broad gauge .  To cater for this new bg freight movement some re arrangement is taking place separately than converts an existing bg track to sg to allow the new bg loading point.

Next year the raw product will arrive by sea at Lascelles Wharf and be put through a new adjacent processing plant before being loaded as containerized cement on bg North Shore to  Lyndhurst  I think .

One imagines access to the pivot sidings/yards was not possible to be negotiated, or was deemed to hard, especially with the level crossing needing to be recommissioned. Last time i looked. the tracks where still in place in the Pivot yards, and if available, surely would have been easier to load containers at

One hopes we will get to see containerised cement on-shiped elsewhere now this facility is going in. Just goes to show what more than one player in the market can do.

Well well well, Dangerousdan007, how do you explain this !!! Keep your eyes peeled at 6:38.  Just because it's a standard gauge gauge train, I don't think there's any need for sabotage..........Razz

A correction to my earlier post, the latest signal diagram for North Shore now shows track A as being a broad gauge dead end siding with a length of 728m.
