Here is a bit of a mystery for you to solve

Going through some old photos of my Dads, and I came across this photo. No idea where or when it is, but the development date on the film is May 1976. The only other info I can give is photos of a trip to Victoria from Qld are also on the roll, so its possible it could be anywhere from Brisbane to Melbourne.

So, sleuth on, can anyone identify where this is, and does the pictured loco still exist and run?

And another one. Absolutely no idea, except again the dates could be the late 60s, very early 70s, and possibly in a back yard set up at The Grange, in Brisbane.

Had a bit of look at the second one, using your "Grange" clue.  The Queensland Society of Model and Experimental Engineers (QSMEE) apparently had a layout at the Grange from 1968 to 1973, at one of it's members houses.  The member in question was Merv Olsson.  Ring a bell?

I certainly think your on the right track there John. The layout certainly was in someones back yard, possibly also extending into the next door property as well. This was certainly prior to 1977, when my dad died, and he was an ex Brisbane trammie and Milton workshops staff. The occasion was probably a Christmas party of some sort. Thanks for the link, I will contact them.

I have received a reply from the Vice President of the QSMEE advising me he will take my email and picture to a meeting to see if anything further comes of it. I will post said reply when I get it.

I sent a copy of the photo to Terry Olsson and he confirmed that it was their family home at the Grange.

I have had identified the location of the photo of Topsy. Indeed it is in the backyard of a house at The Grange. The photo dates from the early 70s. The owner at that time has been identified, as has the driver pictured, but I wont name names here. Further information is the loco was sold around that time, and its current location and condition is unknown. If anyone has any further knowledge of where this loco may currently be, if indeed it still exists, I would be greatly appreciative of this information.

Through Facebook, I have managed to track down the current owner of Topsy. She still exists, but is currently being rebuilt. Topsy has moved down to central NSW.
