I am also a GA pilot, and not a smeg idiot. Smeg off.

Possibly not the best response to make to a post by a moderator...

Do you get the impression that I do not gives a rat's? I lost all respect for that particular moderator years ago, and his latest post only vindicates my position on that. Any decent moderator would avoid a confrontational post like that, but not this one.

Quick question

Phantom 3 Advanced is basically the same as Professional apart from the camera. Advanced uses HD 1080 and Professional uses UHD 4k.

Is it really worth the extra $400?

Your assumption is nearly correct. The Pro does 4K, while the advanced does 2.7K maximum. The Pro comes with a higher output charger that charges the batteries faster and has a couple of other performance improvements such as a faster bit stream in the Lightbridge unit that feeds video back to the controller.

Is it worth the extra $400? Hmm, hard to say when you cannot really use either 4K or 2.7K these days directly, you normally would scale down to 1080p anyway.

I think it depends upon what you want to do with the aircraft, in retrospect, I =probably would have been happy with 2.7K anyway.

About the Phantom - are you flying this by line of sight view from where you hold the controller, or are you flying with a live video feed and point-of-view "glasses"? How close would you be prepared to fly near a bridge being filmed if it was a calm day? - I ask as some close detail images may be interesting. How does the Phantom handle a sudden stop of the props if say you bumped against an obstruction? I have a cheapie 007 Nighthawk (around $50) - very much a toy, (even has a camera!) but I figured that I may as well learn on something where if I lose it, I am not badly out of pocket. Then, if finances permit, upgrade to something like yours in the future.

they're tough little things, able to survive some quite hard bumps. The biggest problem is once they bump something they're likely to bump a few more things before brought back under control. As per CASA requirements I avoid flying near people because a bump like this could easily lead to injury to a 3rd party.

Only to correct spelling errors or make the post easier to understand, but is your snooping unable to detect that?

I ordered the Advanced on-line Thursday PM, should be here on Monday. To limit cash flow I just bought the raw box have no other extras at this time but will acquire with time and justification.

Thanks for your latest uploads of the Nimon's bridge/Woady Yallock creek, Grange Burn and Glenelg River bridges - really great 360 degree views of what's left of those bridges. In the case of the former Coleraine line the bridges are surprisingly intact; also pleasantly surprised to see the Cavendish bridge subject to some attempts to stop the deterioration.

Got the Phantom 3 Advanced. Very pleased.

Youtube is a great teacher with many of the features which are so many you need multiple flights to try them all.

So far gone no higher than 250m straight up from which the world is very small and was chasing my boy on his hover board down the road until it hit the distance limit and I couldn't work out why or how to change for about 5min.

The follow-me and Point of interest Features are very handy. Follow me on a short steam run with lots of bends would be alot of fun.

Hi,
My P3A is going well. Had a crash trying to do low height high speed running over sandcdunes but the ground radar gets confused and went down but didn't rise fast enough. All good though.

I'm in Oz at moment but I'll post some stuff on YouTube when I get back on week. Got some nice shots flying over lakes near Dubai in desert. What I have yet to master is video editing. Especially getting high resolution in reduced picture size. I see what others have posted on FB abd YT and mine look depixelated.

It's very easy to fly. Still learning though. One feature I have yet to use is programmed GPS route. Follow me however is great.

P3 S is probably fine. I'd be careful about buying off shore at heavily discounted price. Even at Dragon mart in UAE (outlet for all things chinese) the price is barely less than 100 bucks less than airport prices.

Yes I've flown out of sight using screen and GPS. I've gone 1.8km away then picture started to break up. Just press HOME to daddy and back she comes or manually fly. Highest I've gone is 250m.

I still just have one battry which is annoying.

Regards
Shane
