VL353 is now the third broad gauge VL for Qube. Seen according to a youtube video of it being used on the paper train with VL360.

Photo on vicsig shows a solo CM3301 on 4MF1 at Albion. Railpictures confirms it's a Qube service. The question is where.

My question was actually what? The photos I saw of 4MF1 was a rake of red containers. What is the loading? Containerised grain?

F denotes the train is bound for Central Western N.S.W. Dubbo, Mudgee, Cowra etc.

I wondered the same thing myself the other day. I can't ever remember seeing a container train with every container being exactly the same. It was weird.

Does that get unloaded for export at the Port of Melbourne?

Nope. Port Kembla or Patricks at Port Botany.

Should have checked/been clearer  - I'm assuming 4MF1 was empties to Coonamble and then worked as 8916 to Port Kembla.

Thanks Bingley, That explains the need for only a single loco.

An unusual light engine movement through suburban Melbourne at Oak Park yesterday with B76 and B80 to Kilmore East.

Why the movement and where were the wagons?

Complete to the frame overhaul, which G521 also desperately needs.

On a side note, I've learnt over the last week or so Qube have been loading normal 20ft boxes onto the Dandenong Cement train for a month or two now.

Seeing as this thread has popped up, does anyone know if Qube are still hiring B76 and B80? I haven't seen any piccies of them anywhere for the last month or so. I know Qube have hired a third VL while the G(s) are getting refurbished, but I would have thought they still needed the Bs when Ultima was running, at least.

I believe they do. QUBE did have a recent shunting accident where they failed to put the handbrake on one of the B class while trying to couple them and it became a runaway for 50m into a dead end.

One would guess that needs a thorough inspection and even repair.

Both B76-B80 are at Nth Dynon not doing much at present.  B74 gets out and about occasionally still.

Thanks, fellas. The handbrake mishap might explain things.

By my reckoning, Qube on BG run the Apex (usually one G); Maryvale (usually two VLs); Dandy cement (usually two locos) and Ultima (usually two locos): that's seven locos required when Ultima is running. They've got three Gs (plus one getting done up) and three VLs, so I assume they are a loco or two short when Ultima is on. I wonder if Qube have been hiring something else in lieu of the Bs?

Anyway, cheers for the replies.

I was fortunate enough to catch G532's first revenue run this week on the Maryvale paper train. It is a very good looking loco in the new livery.
