Comeng 527M - 1114T - 695M

This set has been stabled at Calder Park for three(?) months now. That seems a long time to be out of service, and I was curious what was wrong with it. Vicsig still shows it as "in service"

I've noticed it sitting there too, and was wondering if it was the same one this whole time.

How often do Comeng sets change partners anyway?

Wasn't this in another thread? Either way, what I heard was that 527M apparently had enough of dragging and pushing 695M dead all around Melbourne and went on strike. The Fat Controller wasn't happy so he sent the 3 car set to Calder Park as punishment. Guess which eight cars may be the next to go the way of the Hitachi...

im guessing the photograph would be down. on the comeng page on vicsig right at the bottom theirs are some other comengs apparently stored at Newport workshops not in sets either. their could be a problem with it, i Heard that there going to retire next year anyway.

Bearing in mind that they make up around half the Metro fleet, they will not be retired next year. The Comengs are hanging around until at least 2020, earlier if they design and build a suitable replacement before then. They are scheduled for another "life extension program" soon.

I thought the only stored set was 583M-1022T-589M, excluding scrapped cars 500M (if it is still around), 672M and 1186T... or is there another chopper set or five stored at Newport as well?

look at: http://vicsig.net/suburban/train/Comeng
scroll all the way to the bottem and you should see:
693M
694M
697M
698M
1197T and 1199T
these cars are refurbished in the metro livery. no idea why they are 'stored'.
could be an error on the site who knows.

So, a bunch of chopper cars then. As I said earlier by referencing the Hitachi sets, I'm expecting these eight cars to be cat food tins by 2020 while the other cars are remarshalled back into regular (camshaft) sets. I have a feeling 527M-1114T-528M will be a new old set soon, which will then leave 330M-1025T-350M in the near future when 691M and 692M find their way to Newport Workshops.

Bit of a bump here. Anyways, Vicsig lists 561M-1131T-565M as stored as well. However, it's actually in service as I saw it today going through the Cardinia Road Level Crossing.

VicSig tends to sometimes be out of date, it took them long enough to update the Hitachi lists after the last ones were withdrawn. One of the main pages still refers to Connex as being the suburban rail operator.
