SSR Grain

Being GrainFlow they are a separate company to GrainCorp so maybe other operators can buy from them and have the grain transported to the port?

Grainflow is the storage arm of the old AWB, now owned by Cargill.

I would guess that the 16 grain wagons were stored at Yerong Creek due to the length of particular grain sidings further up the line limiting the train to a length of locomotives + 42 wagons. That is only a guess.

Another guess is they could have just needed maintenence and somebody at SSR saw that was the most conveniant location for said maintenence.

Confirmation of either theory being right or wrong would be great.

.......or it could be crew time vs the speed of the unloader at Appleton Wink

Whatever it is, it's no biggie and everything is running smoothly and just about as planned.

Looks like SSR have gained approval to operate the C Class to Oaklands - with a reduced fuel load to bring the Axle load down to 21.8t :

SSR are in for a rude shock with all the rooting around shunting if they come with a full length train, especially after having been at Dimboola. Could be worse though, at least they'll be loading out of the Jumbo,Qube came here a couple of years ago and had to load out of one of the Ascoms, took two days and filled the town with diesel smoke. One very sooty C and something else, told Graincorp to shove it and never been back.

They were loading on the downside of Dimboola I am told not sure of the siding length there.

The western side is longer and the whole train easily can rest there and the eastern side, fits nicely just before rejoining the main line, so must be nearly two k long.

First visit of the C Class to the Oaklands line perhaps, or have they already been there recently?

They were there last week.  C-Class locos can only have a partial fuel load on-board to come under axle-load limit of the Oaklands line.
