I suspect that freightgate has been betrayed by the auto-correct spellcheck.

Which can of course be disabled. At any rate there's no excuse for hitting "Submit" without first proof reading a message.

Quite predictably, Pell has denied all knowledge of the offending priests during his time as Bishop of Ballarat. "Nobody told me", is his lame excuse.
Either he knew and is therefore  complicit, or he didn't know and is guilty of a gross dereliction of duty. An awful lot of other people did know, and Pell certainly knew about the priest-shuffling that went on. He didn't ask why? Pull the other one.

By most accounts, Pell is a particularly intelligent individual. Draw your own conclusion, I have.
Posted earlier, at the very least, he’s spent sometime in the big house.

Pell was never Bishop of Ballarat however he was one of the Bishops close advisers.

Quite so; my error.

Pell is back in Rome, and one of his 'enemies' in the Vatican who has just resigned apparently secretly funneled about $1 million to Australia around the time of Pell's trial:

I wonder who got the cash?  Ex-Cardinal Becciu's possible upcoming trial in the Vatican will be fascinating to say the least....

I'm fascinated by part of that article (see below - my emphasis)

"But Cardinal Becciu’s lawyer, Fabio Viglione, said the cardinal “decisively rejects” allegations against him, and what Cardinal Becciu called “imaginary privileged relations with the press used for defamatory purposes against senior prelates.”

Since these facts are openly false, I have received an express mandate to report defamation from any source, in order to protect his [Cardinal Becciu’s] honour and reputation, before the competent judicial offices,” Viglione concluded."

Viglione needs to make his mind up - either they're facts or they're false.

Wonder if the fact / false aspect is due to translation as he probably did not say it using the English language? Either way, I suspect some Vatican officials are scheming to reduce Pell's power as they want to fill the resultant power vacuum? Perhaps Sir Humphrey Appleby would have a thing or two to say about Vatican bureaucracy.

It is pretty close to certain that his statement was most certainly not made in English, even if it were, English would at best be his second language, but likely even further down the list than second. That his statements are not word perfect to native English users is pretty much to be expected.

I misjudged the mood - my comment was made in jest, and I didn't think it would be taken seriously. My apologies, all.

Today is quite the day for bombshells. As I said, Becciu's trial will be fascinating:

It's about time we had another good scandal - the last good one would be the sudden and unexplained death of John Paul 1. There were several conspiracy theories about it, and the Vatican Bank featured strongly in them.

The last good scandal was the unexpected death of JP1? From which rock have you just emmerged from under after 40 years?

Oh, there have been plenty of scandals, but I'm talking about the top class variety. The two at head office, i.e. the suspicious death of a new Pope and now the sacking of a cardinal are absolute top quality. Scandals in the branch offices are a regular occurrence.

Even Pope Paul VI knew things weren't quite right back in 1972:

Just to illustrate what I think of the RC hierarchy. A number of RC cardinals were standing around sipping champagne. Besides them were standing 2 of those predator alien creatures. One predator said to the other "I think we are at the wrong predator conference."

If the above offends anybody I hope it does.
