I want to know what are your thoughts on this. Should this be changed back to Spencer Street or not change it?
Should this be changed back to Spencer Street or not change it?Definitely yes. It should never have been changed in the first place. What the change produce? . . . reprints to timetables, business cards, stationery, nameboards, maps etc, and changes to train illuminated destination signage. What good did the change do? . . . None.

"Spencer Street Station" , in three words, told people where it was and what it was, until some bureaucrat with obviously not enough productive work to do, dreamed up this crackpot change. The name went from unique to shared in one go.
Would the owner of the building have had a say in its name, and have naming rights?Should this be changed back to Spencer Street or not change it?Definitely yes. I agree with Valvegear. One function of a station's name should be to give an indication of where that station is located, even if in some cases it is slightly inaccurate. But there is no such inaccuracy in the case of "Spencer Street", and although both the suburban and regional networks are expanding, I don't believe that a line has yet been constructed to the Southern Cross.Should this be changed back to Spencer Street or not change it?Definitely yes. That was not meant to be taken seriously. They should just call it Spencers street Station. nothing more, nothing lessHow about a sponsorship deal with the station?
Call it Marvel Station
Sponsorship deals change every few years....that would confuse everyone
How many incarnations has Docklands stadium had since it was known as Docklands stadium

If it was to change back, would SCS then become SSS ?............. reminds me of BG's last vehicle... a Datsun 180B SSS Coupe.....Datsun 120Y is/was the apple of my eye

Rightly or wrongly I think now the name "Southern Cross " has become well known and is a destination in it`s own right. If it was to change back, would SCS then become SSS ?............. reminds me of BG's last vehicle... a Datsun 180B SSS Coupe.....Datsun 120Y is/was the apple of my eye

Actually that is BS, if I could drive it would be an E38 Charger for me! I'm a sucker for Vitamin C but I think for pure nostalgic value I might go for mustard.

People complaining in this thread about Southern Cross being a waste of money to change its name, but then want to change it back to Spencer street? What purpose is changing the name? Should we change Flagstaff to William street? Richmond to Punt road?Flagstaff Gardens is a location; so is Richmond. That's the fundamental difference between Southern Cross and every other station name in the state. Is it worth changing back? Probably not now, since the name has some recognition among locals at least, and non-geographic names are common globally for major termini, but that doesn't mean it's suddenly a good name.
Right off topic but good info on who we are and what's made us who we are and ending up on RP.If it was to change back, would SCS then become SSS ?............. reminds me of BG's last vehicle... a Datsun 180B SSS Coupe.....Datsun 120Y is/was the apple of my eye

My first car in 1973 was a 180B SSS..
Speaking of Chryslers...I like my classic Chrysler as well. My 1970 Valiant Pacer hardtop. They only came out for one year before yielding to the mighty Charger...

Right off topic but good info on who we are and what's made us who we are and ending up on RP.So you didn't get the reference because you were too young? I have never owned a 120Y, I was referring to the old advertising jingle from my childhood but sadly I cannot find it online. It included the line 'Datsun 120 Y is the apple of your eye, Datsun 120 Whyeeeyeeye' or similar.
BG seriously a 120Y, in 1977 I was in grade 5 and our new librarian, straight out of teachers college, had a 120Y, not exactly the vehicle to drive down to the boozer for Friday night's arm wrestling comp........
