    The cropping program from S.A. Vic to NSW is off to a flying start and with another load of rain to come over the next few days, there will be a lot of people rubbing their hands together.

    Sowing underway as farmers hopeful for strong season ahead.

    Farmers across southern Australia have begun sowing with expectations yield returns could be far greater this season given the wet start to 2020.

    StockandLand show farmers are well underway to planting a variety of crops across Victoria, Southern NSW and eastern SA.

    Chances of good winter rain continue to firm as climate drivers fall into line.

    AUSTRALIA has enjoyed its wettest first four months of the year since 2016 and the good news is not over.

    Further out there is the likelihood of above average winter rain fairly strong for most parts of Australia's agricultural belt.

    Croppers across south-eastern Australia had a perfect present on the traditional opening of the planting season on Anzac Day with up to 40mm falling in parts of the northern Wimmera and southern Mallee in Victoria and widespread tallies of 15-25mm across SA, Victoria and Southern NSW.

    The rain is not only great news for the farming communities but all the creeks and river systems for our water storage's will be getting primed up ready to start flowing and not to forget the wild life.

    Traffic on the Rainbow line.

    Trains return to the Rainbow branch.

    Trains returned to the Dimboola to Rainbow branch line last week for the first time in around ten months.
    The first revenue train ran two days later when Qube Logistics utilised three of their former New South Wales locomotives to haul a rake of 41 grain hoppers to Rainbow for loading.
    Due to the speed limit on the line the train departed Dimboola very early in the morning and returned well after dark (above).
    Since then several more grain trains have loaded at Rainbow, following a similar routine.

    Another 10 mm yesterday.   Brings the total for the year to 169 mm.  We had 296 mm for the whole year last year, with an average of about 360 mm.

    Plenty of tractors doing circle work (or straight lines) at the moment.

    Magnificent news, the rains even stretched into the northern Mallee district, Mildura has had close to an inch over the past few days.

    Looking around the grounds at Australia's winter crop prospects.

    Wheat is expected to be the big winner from a good start to the winter cropping season across much of Australia, with production tipped to rise 93 per cent from 14.5 million tonnes in 2019 to 28 million tonnes in 2020.

    The seeding window for this season's Australian winter crop is now wide open and growers are sowing around the clock in many regions.

    Growers who have had good autumn rains are taking advantage of ideal soil moisture and soil temperature conditions, an indulgence many have not experienced for up to three or four years.

    Still pretty sure that the bulk of that tonnage (as usual) will be handled by the MP27's, MP33's, DBZ's, K100's, T900's, and so on.

    I can't see DBZ's doing much of anything in Victoria! MP33's maybe as the CM's probably with QUBE...

    Aurizon through Adelaide (inbound via Broken Hill) an hour or so ago heading to load at Dimboola.

    Watch out next week for some PN runs west from Nhill to Outer Harbour (Adelaide).

    SSR BG grainy running to the north west this morning. Crossed a stalled PN grainy on Warrenheip bank. The Ultima Hay train also passed through a few hours later. As busy as it gets on the BG these days.

    not unheard of for a loco to go bad en route, or the one of motors on a set of bogies. Several times elzorro trains had issues making that climb simply due to running out of sand. Mind you, its also not unheard of for those grain wagons to be loaded a bit full. As little as an extra ton or 2 of cargo per wagon could easily be enough to overload a train on that hill.

    long gone are the days of loco depot's all over the state for a quick rescue, and I'm not sure you get much co-operation between operators. not sure I've seen it recently. Nothing aside from management instructions would have stopped that SSR train detaching its loco's and acting as a banker for the PN train, which obviously didn't happen.

    A Qube grain train empty with QBX006 and QBX002 travelled to Dynon from Kooragang Island overnight into North Dynon.  Should be heading west from Melbourne today.

    It's a complicated shunt at Nhill. To assist, the train was split in two with one half stabled at Dimboola and then swapped over on the second day.

    When running through on the overland I also saw SSR locos stabled at I believe Kaniva. I understand now the train is split for loading out that way too?
