Here in Central Vic we have a smoke haze from NSW.We have it here in Melbourne. I'm about 4 km as the crow flies from the CBD, and can hardly see any of the high rise buildings. The smell of smoke is quite strong.

As an aside, this illustrates just how big weather systems are, when northerly winds can send smoke down from NSW.
Class actions against State & Federal GovernmentsThis thought has crossed my mind also.
Should the fire-victims (people & businesses) be considering Class actions against State (NSW & Queensland) & Federal Governments for failing to prepare by providing or engaging better fire-fighting resources...?

These fires have burnt out close to 3 Million hectares in N.S.W. the scary thing is, that there is still a heck of a lot of bush to burn out there! but that's the reality of it sadly, without rain, the fire crisis will just get worse and worseMost of the Australian Alps into NSW has been OK so far. However dry thunderstorms with strong winds are forecast (but we don't trust BoM anymore![]()
The beautiful little town of Cobargo has been hit hard.Sadly 2 have been confirmed dead in Cobargo

And the freeway is closed from Bairnsdale to Bombala to North of Batemans Bay.Certainly not.Is Mallacoota safe now?Probably not.
Even though the fire front has passed, it will have left an active fire ground behind it. There will be structures burning, gas cylinders cooking off, trees burning from the inside out...

More on Mallacoota: Army helicopters have been used to deliver satellite phones (because mobile phone service is out) and fresh firefighters to relieve those who had been on the fire ground for over 48 hours, and a couple of the ADF's amphibious transports are being used to deliver emergency supplies and evacuate people.Certainly not.Is Mallacoota safe now?Probably not.
