That being said if Trump didn't go for herd immunity and was a responsible leader and did the lockdowns as needed and the mask wearing and wasn't so concerned about the economy they (USA) would be in a much better position than today

Remember dodgy Johnson did half hearted lockdowns and way too late

Also he said that it would just disappear one day, also compared it to just the flu, he has millions and millions following him, no wonder the U.S is where it is!

I think Sydney is going down the path of Vic in June/July if they don't go hard lockdown like SA in November did.  Madness to have cricket at SCG and NYE fireworks.

They'll be locked up for months before too long...

Possibly 3 cases in metro Melbourne
  doyle Deputy Commissioner

The three new cases are from Mentone, Hallam and Mitcham and ALL THREE believed to be linked to Sydney.

I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect the debate about the Sydney Test is going to seem like Dan Andrews trying to avoid cancelling the Melbourne GP earlier this year: the fact it was being debated will be consider insane.

Money and 'One Upmanship'  .....................

Here in Victoria we have the government saying 'don't go to the city for New Year's Eve' and the Cow from the Council saying 'come and eat'.

Masks at the ready!

I really don't think we need to get carried away, YET, 18 cases may seem a lot, but if the contact tracer's can track all of the people down and trace their movements, it should be O.k, a week is a long time, the test is not until January 7th so still plenty of time, if the cases get a lot worse, well they can and probably will add more restrictions.

Yeah Nah I don't get it either,
I am suitably outraged though

Yeah I went to the local auto shop in Melton on Monday the shop was full of real men staff and customers I was the only wearing a mask
I now question myself
And what’s the question you’re asking?
Am I the only intelligent one in town?
michaelgm

With respect, it is Melton. Intelligence amongst its many bogan folk can be a bit thin on the ground. Smile

Then of course you are relying on EVERYONE co-operating with self isolating, which we know with the three cases in Melbourne, absolutely not everyone will co-operate.

That's true it's a long drive from Adelaide, as we arrived down the Pentland hill we were getting pretty tired we misread the sign Melton for Melbourne
When we realised... we thought close enough

Interesting Victoria revised the cases to 6 from 3.

SA has just closed its border with NSW. Too bad if you went to Sydney for Xmas, now you have to go into 14 days quarantine on coming back.

This thing is going to drag on and on isn't it...

Oh look, Melbourne has the 'rona back for the inevitable New Year party. I wonder how many people will all happily congregate outside with no masks or social distancing so we can get 30000 cases in a week or two and another stage 4 lockdown throughout the heat of summer...

Damn.
  Carnot Minister for Railways

Part of me wonders how much more of these harsh border closures will be tolerated.  People are fed up and won't even bother travelling anywhere now until vaccination is largely completed.

Apathy has set in now... No surprises there given how draining the yo-yo open-close-open-close cycle is.

Didn't want to travel to Victoria over Xmas in case this very thing happened. And it did.

Until mass vaccinations are done, yes.

As incompetent as Trump has been with COVID he doesn't the power to enforce lockdowns in the US even if he wanted to. Same goes for enforcing masks. It is a state issue.

Too late as usual. Borders should have reclosed at least a week ago. I don't want another disastrous lockdown.

Mr. Lane
Why are some mass gatherings allowed in NSW (ie the cricket) but the harbor fireworks now banned? I don't get the way they decide that an aerosol kind of disease like flu or COVID is going to be fine to see a cricket match but not a fireworks display -

And all will be determined on the timing of federal election.
