For goodness sake. Councils under administration are not “caretaker” in the same sense as the state government is the month before the election, or say when a Prime Minister is appointed as an interim measure before a fresh election.

From the legislation dismissing the Council: “the panel of administrators... must perform all the functions, powers and duties of the Casey City Council” (emphasis mine). This is a completely legal and, to all appearances, legitimate decision. It does not cease to be so because gunzels don’t like it.

And I am still yet to see anyone whinging here explain how this decision either a) precludes future provision of a rail passenger service or b) significantly increases the costs of doing so.

Now here's a thought, what about one of these down in Gippyland.

Wouldn't a nice new trail like this be a far better alternative to rusty rails, rotten sleepers and seized up levers !

How? And more to the point, who cares? Why spend heaps on replacing rooted rail infrastructure when a nice rail trail which will probably serve more people can be built? The administrators have done the right thing.

Why is it that some think that the be all end all is to provide a rail service at all costs. The only part of the South Gippsland line worth saving is the Dandenong to Clyde section. Cranbourne and Clyde population is growing fast, and you want a V/Line train to reduce the number of paths available to Cranbourne so that a few thousand people on the Bass Coast can have a Train service?

Note for those of genteel upbringing; "rooted" is a technical term meaning "stuffed".

In the past, sections of closed railway have been re-opened where increased population and demand have warranted it.  Examples are South Morang, then further to Mernda, and Cranbourne itself.  So there is the possibility that this line could one day be extended beyond Cranbourne or Clyde, IF the population and demand are there.  Otherwise, forget it.

Interesting that you and Bevans both smell the same corruption....... and keep posting stuff like the fully funded tourist railway op despite all evidence to the contrary. Got a source for that claim?

Not sure about bevans but the article I read is on the site and states there is a fully funded tourist railway proposal.

There it is.

Corruption comes to mind as the council was sacked due to corruption and the question still remains how has this decision been made with a temp administrator?
