A second night of protests is underway following the fatal police shooting of Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, on Sunday during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota.

The shooting was ruled a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner. During a press conference on Monday, Police Chief Tim Gannon said he believes the officer meant to pull out a taser when Wright was shot and called the incident an “accidental discharge.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey both announced 7 pm curfews for Monday.

If you cannot tell the difference between a fire arm and a taser you shouldn't have access to any weapon. I believe it's a BS defence as tasers are usually holstered on the front of the utility vest and the side arm is in a holster on your hip. Hence why it's called a side arm.

The question is did the police officer panic and just went for anything? If that is the case it's another compelling reason why this guy is not fit for such police duties. Oh we just made a little mistake; but too bad for the dead guy.

Your guy is a girl and she has resigned. But I agree how you could not tell the difference is intriguing

@theanimal Why did she panic? The guy was fleeing. Why oh why are mass shooters who are overwhelmingly white men are treated better than blacks who wind up dead because of a minor misdemeanor or innocent.

@Upven What? Partisan? With the greatest of respect, give me a break. In 2021 still, when it comes to interaction with law enforcement in the US, white men are given the benefit of the doubt, black men plainly aren't. Yet another black mother has to bury her child because of the actions of an ill-trained officer triggered at the sight of a black man. What the hell is she reaching for a weapon when the man was fleeing? From a traffic stop. I hope she gets prison time but she wont. And I wont be surprised if Derek Chauvin gets off too. Because you have to be a black Police Officer of Somali descent to serve time it seems. Oh I forgot that Amber Guyger cow who shot poor Botham John is serving time too. Should have got at least 30 years.

In a separate incident, An innocent black army vet, gets pepper sprayed on a traffic stop.

And Dylan Roof kills 9 black people in a church gets KFC. And that a$$hole who gunned down 8 people (6 of them Asian) in 3 businesses and the Chief says "oh he was having a bad day". And you have some quoting that it had nothing to do with race on the back of testimony passed on to the FBI from local law enforcement by the killer. Misinformation, even though the man had driven through 3 counties, affecting only Asian owned businesses, in a city and state that is less than 5% Asian American.

And if you go away with the impression that I dislike all white people I truly don't. But some are very, very uncomfortable with the mere mention of race, including some on this forum. But you know what, if they are, stiff $hit. Could not give a rats. I care for the victims and their poor mothers who have to bury them.

Says the man who is to the right of Pauline Hanson.

Did not expect you to understand at all. I know the truth is uncomfortable, and I fully expect you to whine and moan about me hating upon all white people.

Because nuance is just not your thing is it Don?

Or the truth?

Why does the shooting of a black man in Minneapolis apparently give a green light to loot the Nike store in Portland, Oregon? KGW8 Portland OR (NBC);

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland police declared a riot in downtown Portland after anti-police demonstrators started smashing windows Friday night. Multiple people have been arrested.

The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) said there were two separate marches downtown after 9 p.m., one of which became destructive while the other stayed peaceful.

The one that was declared a riot started in Director Park on Southwest Ninth Avenue and Yamhill Street. At 9:45 p.m., police tweeted that participants had started to engage in criminal activity. A riot was declared minutes later.

Kinda funny because one of the targets was the Nike store in downtown Portland which was smashed up badly this time around - last year it was protected by a heavy security presence but this one obviously took them by surprise. Very strange that Nike keeps being targeted because they've actually been donating large amounts of money to Black Lives Matter.

Pent up anger takes no notice of logic. These rioters are enraged and I can understand it perfectly. In instances like this latest one, black people cannot be blamed for feeling that the bad old days have never left them.

I just wish that they could express their anger without destruction.

BLM co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors slams criticism of her wealth as 'racist and sexist' - New York Post:

“Marxist” Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors tearfully defended her $3.2 million real estate empire, insisting she didn’t use a penny of BLM donations on herself...

...But in insisting she did not take a salary from the organization’s non-profit foundation, Khan-Cullors left unsaid whether she was paid through BLM’s network of similarly named for-profit entities.

What that pay might be is cloaked in secrecy, as BLM’s for-profit branches do not reveal spending and executive pay.

Apparently there's a not-for-profit and a for-profit part of Black Lives Matter - not sure what the distinctions are between the two or what the for-profit branch actually does to make its money? Anyway the article goes on:

...She confirmed that she owns four homes, but said she invested in the properties to take care of her family, she said.

“I’m not renting them out in some Airbnb operation,” she said.

“The way that I live my life is in direct support of black people, including my black family members first and foremost,” she said.

“I have a child, I have a brother that has severe mental illness that I take care of. I support my mother, and I support many other family members of mine,” she said.

“My money is not my own — I see it as my family’s money as well,” she said.

Khan-Cullors also took time out to rip the media for reporting on her lavish spending.

“The fact that the right wing media is trying to create hysteria around my spending is frankly racist, and sexist,” Khan-Cullors said.

Here's a picture of the Marxist activist with her four houses:

@Valvegear Yes I wholehartily agree. Rioting and looting does not help the cause at all. It is just pointless and disgraceful. What they should do is mobilise politically like black women do and make sure that progressive candidates are voted in who can effect real change.

@Carnot @don_dunstan That the you think that 1 black woman taking the pi$$ is more important than innocent black men being killed by law enforcement speaks volumes. BLM hierarchy does deserve criticism in the fact that rampant anti-Semitic sentiment is uttered by some in the top echelon of the movement. And this lead to Jewish groups withdrawing their support, which is both disgusting and counter productive and needs to be rooted out. The Jewish community in the US and UK has always has had black peoples back.

That black woman is a grifter, pure and simple. But really is that the worse thing to get wound up about? Or you are just angry because she is a wealthy black woman?

Yet another mass shooting this time in Indianapolis. 8 people lost their lives and their families in their grief will try to pick up the pieces. The perpetrator of this senseless crime has turned the gun on himself. Good. I hope he rots in hell.

Someone really needs to take the Gun Lobby by the neck and give them a good old belting up, (politically speaking), American's DO NOT have a right to bare arms, IIRC that law was bought to bear back in the days when they had much slower firing and loading riffles.

Agree wholeheartedly there is a need for gun reform, equally convinced none will be forthcoming.
The seemingly appropriate sepo response to gun violence is more guns.

Only the Americans believe that the way to stop gun violence is for everyone to have a gun.  Only the Americans fail to see that this idea is a monumental failure.
  Carnot Minister for Railways

The main justification I hear from gun-toting Yanks is that keeping guns in the hands of citizens is a way to prevent a tyrannical Government from prevailing.  I.e Threaten armed revolution if they feel they're losing their freedoms.

Seems a bit strange given there are plenty of democracies that are doing just fine without more guns than people...

There is talk of an appeal, but I think it will be thrown out on the account of the overwhelming evidence against Chauvin.

The young lady who filmed the episode has performed a magnificent public service. Biden should give her a medal. I guess there will be an appeal - Chauvin's lawyers will enjoy extra money, and the courts are a traditional playing field in the US of A.

Indeed Valvegear, if it wasn't for the lady that filmed it, Chauvin would have probably been acquitted, because there were drugs in Floyd's body at the time of his passing.

That girl who did stirling work in filming it sbould get a Nobel Peace Prize. On a separate note a yonug 16 year old black girl has been shot dead by police in Columbus.

I have not seen all the footage but the Police Officer who fired the sbots has been condemmed as trigger happy as he was the last officer on the scene.

"freightgate"
Short answer: No bloody way.  Did you watch the video? Did you hear or read the autopsy report? Are you aware that this about the first time anyone can remember fellow US police officers giving evidence for the prosecution, against one of their own?

Politically correct?  Pig's ear.
