Labor must step up and fund its share of intermodal build

News article: Labor must step up and fund its share of intermodal build

A new intermodal freight terminal will be a win-win for all Victorians and the Andrews Labor Government should confirm its commitment to the project in next week’s State Budget.

Unfortunately I don't think the anti rail freight Andrews Labor Government will provide any money.

The Andrews Labor Government's record on rail freight speeks for itself
- Port rail shuttles announced multiple times but the trains have not yet run
- Rainbow line left to ruin
- Toolamba line booked out
- Completely botched the Murray Basin Project.

You must wonder why the federal government would not provide all the money to make the terminal a success.  Are rail terminals that expensive?

What is the maxmium train length available now into Melbourne area?

How will the terminal handle double stacking of freight?  Will the terminal take the box off the top and place it onto a shuttle train or just say hell I will send it to the port by truck?

$4b for an intermodal hub? Surely I'm missing something, maybe there's more to this project than just an intermodal hub. Significant standard gauge track conversion or something. Otherwise what the $#@%!

Also which intermodal terminal? Cos there's what, Beverage, Ballarat, Lyndhurst, the inland rail one, and probably a few more that's either on the planning board or being foamed about.

Sucked in.

The $2b from the feds is a proposed commitment, not an actual one. I have read elsewhere that it isn't even listed in the next four years of forward estimates.

Digging up an opinion piece from a Say-Anything-To-Get-Noticed-But-Comfortable-In-Opposition country bumpkin adds no weight to the issue.

Move on.
