Sourcing articles is only part of the editor's role as the editor has to do the layout as well, so trimming artices, reviews  and other text and images to fit available space as advertisments are sometimes sold by space / size, so has to be exact as someone paid for that size. Some may say the editor has to juggle multiple balls in the air as well as pleasing many different people with different agendas so a thankless role.
