    8601 at Kooragang Island

    Unlike many classmates, 8601 was saved from the scrappers torch. However, it is hardly better off, seen here languishing at the end of an overgrown siding at Kooragang Island, exposed to corrosive salt air. This former Silverton Rail locomotive is owned by Dorrigo Steam & Railway Museum, which itself is nothing more than a collection of tired locomotives waiting out their final years.
