RESIDENTS in the Cairns region are being offered half-price tickets to ride on the Kuranda Scenic Railway on Australia Day on January 26.
Member for Barron River Craig Crawford said the special offer was an excellent opportunity for locals to take advantage of the national holiday and experience the iconic KSR – which was recently named as one of TripAdvisor’s Top 10 Experiences in Australia – for themselves.
“This is the fourth year in a row Queensland Rail has provided this bargain for locals on Australia Day, giving people living in Cairns and surrounding areas the chance to be a tourist for a day in their own backyard,” Mr Crawford said.
“For one day only, locals can enjoy half price travel on the KSR, and see for themselves one of the most renowned rail journeys in the world that people come from far and wide to see.
“The Australia Day sale gives people the perfect excuse to get their family and friends together, sit back and enjoy the ancient Kuranda Range all from the comfort of the award-winning Heritage or Gold Class carriages.
“The Kuranda Range is in its prime at this time of year, especially after summer rains, and is a sight not to be missed.”
To celebrate the national holiday, a customer event will be held at Freshwater Station with an Aussie Bush Band and classic Aussie barbecue in the morning.
A one-way ticket from Cairns to Kuranda will cost as little as $25 per adult and $12.50 per child, providing an affordable, family-friendly way to explore and celebrate the beautiful Cairns region this Australia Day.
