ENGIE Ineo and Thales have completed the first section of the Train Express Régional (TER) in Senegal and will formally deliver it to the government next week.
The 36km section between Dakar and Diamniadio will be delivered in the presence of Senegal President Macky Sall.
Scheduled to be completed next year, the TER project will connect Dakar with the new Blaise Diagne International Airport. The 55km long rail route will have 14 stations.
Once completed, the link will enable commuters to reach the airport from Dakar in 45 minutes.
Lead contractor ENGIE Ineo and Thales are involved in the designing and construction of rail electrification, signalling, telecommunication and revenue collection systems.
“We have successfully managed the complexity of this project and designed a latest-generation TER rail link for Senegal.”
They are working with Senegalese national agency APIX and other partners to deliver the project.
ENGIE Ineo CEO Yann Rolland said: “We have successfully managed the complexity of this project and designed a latest-generation TER rail link for Senegal, and have appreciated the expertise and engagement of APIX.
“We will maintain this momentum for the second, 19km section, which will link Diamniadio to the international airport.”
Under the project, ENGIE Ineo is responsible for all necessary design and development studies and will supervise overall integration testing with TER.
Along with Thales, the company will also deliver all technical systems for the project. They include rail electrification systems, rail and station power supplies, Wi-Fi connectivity and passenger safety systems.
They are also required to equip the Dakar rail route with the European Train Control Systems (ETCS) Level 2 to enable train speed supervision and a centralised traffic command and control system.
