Your new Jolimont/MCG tram stop
As part of the modernisation of Melbourne's tram network, Yarra Trams and Public Transport Victoria are renewing the tram tracks and overhead wires at the corner of Glenhuntly and Truganini roads in Carnegie.
From 1:30am Saturday 15 August 2015 continuing 24 hours a day until 5am Tuesday 18 August 2015.
The renewed track will deliver a better road surface for motorists, cyclists and tram passengers, and less tram noise due to potholes, broken rails and wheel squealing. These rails have not been replaced in over 26 years.
Supporting local business
Yarra Trams is working closely with City of Glen Eira and VicRoads to minimise the impact of this work on local traders.
For any specific concerns regarding access to your business or property during the works, please call 1800 800 007 (6am-midnight).
Noise disruption and dust
Associated noise from machinery, vehicles and work crews is unavoidable but Yarra Trams will do all it can to keep this to a minimum. Please be aware that assoicated dust from works is also a common occurance.
The noisiest work will occur between 6am and 10pm.
There may however be a need to conduct noisy work outside these hours to ensure that the work is completed by Tuesday 18 August 2015.
Motorists
Glenhuntly Road will be closed between Railway Road and Truganini Road from 12:01am Saturday 15 August 2015 until 5am Tuesday 18 August 2015.
Truganini Road will be closed from Neerim Road to the corner of Koornang Road from 12:01am Saturday 15 August 2015 until 5am Tuesday 18 August 2015.
Some on-street parking will be affected near the work zone on both Glenhuntly and Truganini roads.
Traffic controllers on site will manage local access for residents and business operators throughout the work period. Further details will be provided closer to the time.
Pedestrians
The work zone will be fenced off for safety but footpaths will remain open to allow pedestrian access to all business and residences.
Tram passengers
Route 67 trams will be affected. For details closer to the time, refer to signage on the network or onboard brochures.
We thank you for your patience and regret any inconvenience caused by this essential repair work.
We advise that it is being performed in accordance with our obligations to Public Transport Victoria and is necessary to maintain a safe tram network as required by the Rail Safety Act 2006 (Vic).
Accordingly Yarra Trams will not be compensating third parties for any losses incurred during the conduct of the work.
