Steam locomotive 60009 Union of South Africa will be back in steam on the mainline and will be passing through York and Settle on Saturday 27th April 2019.
The A4 locomotive is hauling a railtour. 60009 is running from York to Carlisle and return.
The railtour will depart London Kings Cross at 06:30 and head up the ECML to York, arriving at 11:22. It will head via Potters Bar (08:32), Sandy (09:09), Peterborough (09:33), Newark North Gate (10:26), Doncaster (10:55) and York (11:22). Here, 60009 Union of South Africa is added to the train.
Departing York at 11:50, 60009 will head via Church Fenton (12:03), Leeds (12:27), Shipley (12:53), Keighley (13:09), Long Preston (13:44), Ribblehead (14:20), Appleby (14:56), and finally Carlisle at 15:36.
After a break in Carlisle, a diesel locomotive will take over the tour, and will then make its way back towards York. The tour will depart Carlisle at 16:32 and will head via Haltwhistle (17:03), Hexham (17:20), Metrocentre (17:48), Birtley Junction (18:05), Darlington (18:44), Thirsk (18:59), York (19:18), Doncaster (19:50), Peterborough (21:09), Stevenage (21:58), Potters Bar (22:20) and London Kings Cross (22:48).
