Having exchanged the Ordinary Train Staff (Queanbeyan to Bungendore) for the Miniature Electric Staff (Bungendore to Tarago), X47 leads classmates X52 and X50 north with 2126 Canberra to Clyde empty fuel train. The semaphore signal in the photo is the down home signal for Bungendore.
X47 is one of two X Class locomotives modified with XR Class style windscreens. Earlier that day, X47 had undergone load trials between Canberra and Bungendore using loaded fuel tankers, as well as the dead weight of offline X52 and X50. After the trials were completed, X47 was returned to Canberra yard and shut down, leaving X52 and X50 to shunt the loaded fuel wagons into their siding in Fyshwick.
X50 and X52 would join classmate X51 to work the Bomen fuel train the following evening, while X47 remained in Sydney.
